So the liberation of women over the last 100-150 years has been the best thing for women? I mean isn’t that kind of a given, what would the opposite view be?

You want us to debate if the liberation of women is good? Or if that’s the best aspect of the modern world?

Guys don’t have a reason to play it down though do we, if anything we have some incentive to play it up. It takes two people to have casual sex, the number for guys is like 24, and for women is 17. Isn’t that basically your lying margin, I guess not all the way because gay gays have insane amounts of casual sex, so maybe a bit lower than 24. Is this entire argument over 5%?

What other solution is there? If we have a pizza and I have 5 slices and you have 3. The only way to get to equality is I lose one slice for you to gain one.

Isn’t it basically a situation where walking and chewing gum would be difficult? We’re trying to turn back the dial on women’s suppression but it’s just incompatible in some ways with simultaneously doing something for men. Like if you give women reproductive freedom while also giving men financial freedom: the child is screwed over when they’re born. If we said more law and med students are currently women, pump the schools with men, men who are still a majority in these professions would remai…

Then love bombing / toxic relationships / abusive narcissists wouldn’t really be a thing would it?

Put an abusive narcissist in a performative male costume and they won’t need a lot of time to do damage.

I think you’re overestimating people’s capacity to discern honesty from fakeness. If a guy comes across as ‘feminine’, it’s a sense of they’re open, secure in themselves, confident + just somewhat more relatable. But guys know this, so some exploit it and you can’t always easily tell the difference. If everyone’s BS detector was at 100, you’d never have fkboys convincing people they love them with their 5 cent poetry.

The same way there’s a lot of pick mes who pretend to like sports, there’s a lot of manipulative guys who act a certain way because they think it’ll help them get laid. Doesn’t mean people can’t genuinely be that way, just that there’s a significant chunk who aren’t.

I think it’s relatively important to distinguish chivalry from manipulation. Most people who perform one way or the other, aren’t just doing it because their parents taught them that’s what a good man is.

I mean I don’t think you’re wrong, I just don’t see what context this happens in. Fear / pain / feeling threatened are all sub conscious things. You don’t opt in or opt out of them, there’s no point where someone’s thinking, am I allowed to be afraid right now because social norms said women can’t hurt me. You’d just feel the thing. Once you feel the thing, you will react to it. I don’t know at what point someone gets offended/scared/hurt and then just shrugs it off without communicating it or p…

Can’t most people tell the difference when someone’s fake made play fighting and real mad violent? Like it’s haha when you end up making your woman angry and she starts slapping at your arm but boo when someone throws cutlery at you. Pain is a fairly immune to what the social norms are kind of thing. You will probably know when you feel it and react accordingly. You can’t not feel pain because you’ve been socially conditioned that women are harmless, it’s just not how our bodies work.

Then he’d just be having the teenage experience later than most. I doubt anyone’s first 4-5 relationships they were particularly compatible with, and would repeat again. It takes some amount of trying to find out who/what you’re into. That’s normal. Well-adjusted means after that period, you’re more selective because you know what you want / who you are.

Why do you think that affirmation happens? Guys aren’t perfect at calling each other out on their poor decisions but I do think we do it a tad more than women get from their friend circles. Is it just like an overdoes of kindness/compassion.

I think it would be more accurate to say that the bitter / jaded is a broken picker in the other direction. Seeing abusive narcissists through rose-tinted glasses and seeing ordinary people through red flag-tinted glasses is the exact same thing. It’s being biased either way, in a manner that will only end negatively for you, no one else.

You can do most of these + the traditional roles. Masculinity is additive in nature. Stoic with problems = good. Stoic with problems + warm with family/friends = better. Ambitious in career = good. Ambitious in career + loves art and nature = even better.

Yes both those examples would be 0 possibility of choice.

Someone living in Australia while you live in Jamaica can claim you SAed them. You could have never even interacted with each other or been in the same continent for an accusation to be made.

I don’t personally think there’s some bar of ‘your agency’ vs ‘not your agency’ and when it slides over, we blame you vs them. I just don’t like anything about that blame game framework, it should be more practical. The framework I like is if you had >0 agency in a situation, focusing on what you could have done differently is the most practical thing to do because you can’t change the world. There are at least some signs that a person is a cheater usually e.g. they have cheated before on someon…

Yes, I agree with basically all of these. More responsibility on all people for what happens in their life and the burden of maximizing their happiness and minimizing their suffering. Sounds like a great idea. But in general there is some level of nuance between how much could you have foreseeably understood. Gold digger / cheater / you pick people who don’t want you is relatively easy. Some things like being falsely accused of SA can be extremely unpredictable, depending on the context, but if …

Haven’t most of the school shooters been the awkward and shy types? It doesn’t by itself mean danger but people who are rejected by society for whatever reason tend to more likely be resentful / nihilistic which is a giant red flag in permanent marker. The same reason we often think incels aren’t just awkward, they’re creepy. The consequences of ugly / shy / awkward results in creepy things.

But why would it make a difference? Like if you fulfill your traditional roles, odds are you’ll find someone who’s into that. Like just in general fulfilling the burden of masculinity comes with a lot of benefits. Does it really matter if women’s roles change, like okay some of them aren’t what you’re into anymore but like you can just ignore them.

Do you not enjoy high expectations? Like is the responsibility of prove yourself in a career, protect, and be brave, hold the emotional burdens for others, prioritize the people depending on you over self etc. None of these sound like unenjoyable roles to fulfill. I’d much rather play this character than be given a script that says your primary job in life is to be attractive, find a partner and raise children. That sounds pretty nauseating. I just don’t get why don’t like the traditionally masc…

“He takes on the burden of being the fun, interesting one, the romantic one, courageous, smart or outgoing.” I don’t know about you but most guys are happy with that kind of dynamic. They want a cheerleader who notices them being funny and interesting and courageous and compliments them for it. Guys like doing things to get respect or to show they’re clever and being admired for it. If that’s the role people want in women and ask them to perform, I don’t see how they then aren’t ’good enough’. S…
