I see the "bar is in hell" rhetoric used in online Woman's spaces in the following ways; Some woman they know or see online is continually tolerating/making excuses for their boyfriends bad behavior ("why haven't you broken up with him already?") A man being praised for doing something they would deem "a bare minimum expectation" (ex. washed the dishes and put them away; doing their own laundry; etc) Certain behaviors ascribed to men that are considered complete turn-offs (man doesn't wash ass i…

Some of these cliche platitudes have this sort of paradox where they offer advice that pertains to the goal of finding a partner, but they want you to follow that advice without that goal in mind. So for example, “find a hobby”, but “do it for yourself out of enjoyment, not to go looking for someone”. The reason for this is simple, there is an underlying unstated philosophy behind it which is, “just live life to your fullest and someone will likely step into it, and if not, at least you have sou…

Um, where's the part where men are weak? That they are arguing here on Reddit? lmao ok

One of the major benefits to a relationship for a man is they can exchange commitment for guaranteed access to sex. Men in general just don't have the same abundance of willing sexual partners to jump from one to the next that women have. While it may be possible for an average guy to go find another willing sexual partner, it would require a significant degree of effort to struggle with (finding a new sexual partner constantly would be very difficult and also increase risks of STDs). Relationsh…

So I take that as a no, which is even worse than I thought, it's not just that you haven't staked a clear position on something, you aren't staking one at all!

First of all, that's a lie, you said in a previous post that "men should consider embracing single life—not as a temporary phase but as a legitimate and fulfilling option" and "it’s time we started finding fulfilment independently of them", in a post titled; For Men, Single Life Is the Solution—Not Something to Fear More importantly, the innocent position you have taken is; a man cannot tolerate a second of being single and will thus rush into toxic relationships is a problem. As long as you fai…

No, people here have given you chances to clarify and upon pushback, you resorted to the most innocent positions that nobody here disagrees with to avoid fair criticism. You have not challenged anyone's worldview by doing this.

What do you mean "fall apart"? I'm sorry man, you have to be specific here or we can't get anywhere. I'm sure we would agree that being confident doesn't mean you can never be sad about a breakup. Confidence doesn't mean relationship drama can't affect you negatively, nor that your mental health can't take a hit. If we go down this road of me trying to guess what you mean here, you will continually shift around in the ambiguity of your language like you have been doing in your other Reddit threa…

I think the big takeaway here is that if someone is constantly saying that people are "misrepresenting my argument", it's an indication that they haven't staked a clear position in the first place. This allows wiggle room for the person arguing to shift the goalposts when challenged so they aren't held to a criticism.

Sexbots are prohibitively expensive, and even at top price they aren't nearly advanced enough to create a convincing sex experience like in the '73 Westworld movie. It would require advancements in robotics that most average people would never pay for. On the Sci-Fi end of things, I envision the future something more like the '76 Logan's Run movie, which had a circuit that beamed people to others places to hookup. While teleportation is of course unrealistic, Augmented Reality (like the Apple Vi…

You haven't provided any examples of these men, so I can't know why. I suggest being more specific. Your notion of a "truly confident man" is a fantasy. Like I said before, many people who may think they are "purely confident internally" are unaware of the ways they get their confidence repeatedly reinforced when they are surrounded by people that uplift them. You don't need women's approval if you are already getting it or if you are just avoiding interacting with them in the casual context alt…

A confident man isn't going to "crumble" on a bad experience, that's the point. You build up confidence by winning, and when you inevitably lose, it's up to you to pick yourself back up and keep grinding. That's just how it goes for people, we get rewarded and that motivates us to keep going. When that mental baseline is built up, you aren't going to take rejection as hard anymore, you know from experience what your capabilities are.

You get boosted confidence from success with women overtime, it’s a positive reinforcement. Just like it comes from developing skills and building something you can be proud of (whether that be a company, house, etc). It’s not something that just comes naturally to everyone, you work towards it by building yourself up. A lot of people unfortunately let one or two bad experiences ruin it for them and they refuse to go further, which keeps them where they are at. Social skills, pick-up game, and c…

What you see as "weakness" and "validation seeking" just looks like taking initiative and embracing self-actualization in a masculine manner to me. People are often blind to the forms of validation they receive on a day-to-day basis that uplifts them. A major component of Pickup Artistry is the importance of positive reinforcement for confidence, you need to experience success to build up that confidence, it isn't just something that comes naturally or is willed into existence. Some people grow …

Maybe when said out in the open, but for women there's gossip and reputation-destruction backstabbing kind of stuff that happens behind the scenes. Just because it's not being spoken directly doesn't mean it's not being conveyed in another way.

Maybe, I just never see the same sort of urgency for men finding a good partner and avoiding the narcissistic and abusive ones that we see for women. For men, it's mostly about finding a partner at all and that women are too picky or "choose wrong" or whatever.

The "loser" equivalent for women is being ugly & fat, being a "slut", and being unmarried at 30 when your friends are all getting married (since it's a big status boost to be married).

It has me appreciating more traditional ways of dealing with these issues. Consider the tradition of men asking the woman's father for her hand in marriage, and the father "passing off" his daughter in the marriage ceremony. The father has the job of vetting his daughter's SO to determine whether he is fit for marriage. The father is naturally protective of his daughter and would aid in examining crucial qualities that would be perhaps better understood from the perspective of an older man that …

I see this is probably gonna boil down to, "that's not the true red pill but some personality that hijacked it", which is an uninteresting thread of discussion to me. I am just going by popular sentiment, not what the very first self-described "red pillers" may have said at one point many years ago.

It's not that women don't have hobbies, of course they do. It's that the hobbies for men are obvious to the point of being stereotypical, while for women it's not (at least to me). Cars, video games, and sports. It's a nearly infallible formula that I can predict what guys find interesting, is there one for women?

If women feel like men are more of a threat than bears, then there should definitely be segregation. After all, we are already segregated from big scary wild animals in our spaces.

The red pill is an easy pipeline to the black pill, I think because most men aren't going to become what the red pill preaches ("alpha male", ripped, owns a business and makes over $100k+, getting laid routinely). It's hard to remain red pilled if you can't meet the expectations and so it's far easier to rationalize your "failure" in a defeatist manner (that there is nothing that you could have done anyways and so it's hopeless). There is a lot of black in that red.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/24 12:08 AM

I would assume men are generally significantly less picky than women, although it will ultimately depend. Many men out there will have their own particular set of standards, especially higher value men (as in, wealthier, better looking, status, etc). When it comes down to it, the people who have higher standards are going to be those who have the options (because they have something to bring to the table to compensate for that). For those who have high standards but not much for options, they wi…

Even if we grant that women are no happier in marriages now than before, we still haven't established why that may be the case. It could be that women are just as or more miserable for reasons that have nothing to do with the current incentives for divorce, and by making it more restrictive, it will lock women into marriages further and make for even more stuck miserable marriages than may have been the case in the past. As long as we haven't ruled that possibility out, then that may be a conseq…

It depends on what you consider a "good partner". Many people will "settle" for what you might call a not-so-great relationship over being alone. There's a common opinion you see on Reddit, which is essentially, "it's better to be alone than with a bad partner". While many will relate to this, it's not a universally shared sentiment despite being a loud one online, there are those who went through what they self-describe as a subpar relationship that ended with a bad breakup, and yet say they wo…

Poor people get married and benefit from it too, it is far from an elitist institution. Marriage comes with certain legal rights and duties that are beneficial for monogamous relationships and family creation, it’s not just a piece of paper by the government. It’s secular as well, otherwise same-sex marriage would have never been an issue as it’s not religiously sanctioned, but we realize marriage is not just an old religious sacrament, it’s a cornerstone to society.

"not getting women", "not scoring 8/10+ women" Doesn't sound like terminology one would use if they wanted to find a committed relationship, is this a hookup thing? Hookup culture is inevitably going to favor attractive men, while a relationship just requires that you find one woman that you can exchange some intimate needs for.

The justification for marriage is simple, it fulfills our intimate needs and provides a stable foundation for family creation. You don't need a marriage to last for this to be accomplished.

Why should the metric of "sustainability" be couples in a lifelong marriage? Some die younger while some divorce and remarry, these things can happen while marriage remains relevant.

In-person, people display their personality, humor, and other traits that can make you more attractive beyond just physical appearance, as a potential suitor for a relationship. Dating apps can be beneficial to those who don't have any social circle (or at least one that doesn't have the opposite sex) and want a way to find someone looking for the same thing.

There is one common solution to the dilemma of expending immense effort to find more sexual partners... and that is monogamous relationships. I like how Dr. Orion Taraban (a psychologist that some here really like) frames it, there is always an exchange going on in a relationship (relationships are all transactional fundamentally), commonly that men exchange attention and support in the ways that they can that women value for persistent access to sex. Granted, that is only one person you will sh…

If I meet some woman and neither of us has used a dating app in our life and we hit it off, how has it "influenced" us exactly?

most childless single women are happier than married women I don't believe this, because if it were true, then women would just not engage in relationships anymore for the rest of their life (why would I engage in a relationship if it made me less happy?), but women generally want companionship at some point and will settle for a relationship over being alone.

Even if it were to be granted for sake of argument that women may have been in happier marriages under a system of more roadblocks to leaving marriage, why should there still not be an opt-out for those in bad marriages? There could be many factors impacting marital satisfaction here that have little to nothing to do with a stricter set of rules being set in place. I just don't see why this calls out for such evidence needing to be presented. It doesn't have any bearing either way. The claim isn…

Women often report feeling overwhelmed by the sheer abundance of less-than-stellar matches, while men sometimes complain that they rarely get a reply or even a match. This is a curious thing for me to think about. With an abundance of matches for women given of course that men dominate the dating apps, if the vast majority of them are "less-than-stellar", how can you expect to fare any better in-person? At least on dating apps. you can sift through your options, while in-person it's down to circ…

I think some of the difficulty behind dating comes out of meeting up with strangers, as what happens with online dating. A lot of people, in the past and today, have met out of some kind of shared space in-person, like school, work, friend groups, etc. Some of this has declined in our digital age, loss of third spaces, working from home, and more emphasis on meeting online now. There's some significant difference in dating someone you already sort of know by initially talking with them and getti…

There can't be an overall "gatekeeper of relationships" as long as monogamy is the norm. There is roughly one man for every woman, so the leverage evens out as long as committed relationships are a need (as in, both have a strong mutual interest to find commitment). Granted, this will vary by age and status, so it can't reflect everyone's experience equally but it's an inevitable generality.

Women increasingly no longer need to depend on a man for his paycheck, so it's not looking good for men on that front. However, this means many women will have to face a choice of settling or remaining alone, because there won't be enough "quality men" (who can offer something substantial beyond a paycheck) to go around. For the vast majority of women, remaining alone is going to be the more undesirable outcome so there will be more settling for a committed relationship. So in the end, both men …

Consider also the "perception of a relationship"; situationships can benefit men more by getting sex without a commitment.

It's a selection bias, the guys who are getting more attention have more options, which means they do not have to exchange commitment for access to sex.
