I find this relatable. It used to happen to me a lot but not as much anymore.

I think you're right on. The ones who are giving me the cold shoulder are probably the ones most thrown off by my new girl. Oh well, que sera sera!

I'm still seeing her but I haven't brought her up nor have I received any questions about her lately. Why?

Yeah, I know. I was trying to play it cool, but I couldn't help myself!

Got it, better start pumping the breaks. Thanks for the heads up!

No, she doesn't like my friend group. She thinks they're boring!

Yeah, I was definitely giving off the vibe. Not cool, I know, but in the moment it felt great!

I see now that was not necessarily a good move. Lesson learned!

Thanks everyone for the replies! Here's a little more context: While I have dated a few women outside of the circle, this was the first time that I had ever brought a girl around to meet them. I didn't want to get involved in the circle because, well, I can be pretty incompetent and didn't want have to deal with embarrassment on a constant basis. In any case, most of the women are taken or are in committed relationships. It was more like I wanted to show that I was a contender, that I was in the…

Yeah, I can see that. It was the first time I had brought anyone around. I made sure to introduce her to everyone. It must have been a little too obvious what I was doing!

Thanks! This is sound advice. I'll make an effort to do that.

When you get good at it, you won’t want to waste your time with it

Don’t. This will only reinforce your self-limiting belief that “you don’t know what you’re doing”

Start with going somewhere regularly; the gym, a social group meetup, a club/bar, etc. Meet other regulars and make an effort to get to know them. This is a great way to broaden your social circle. From there, your new friends can introduce you to new people, activities, places to visit, etc.

Letting go of the outcome is what really matters. You still gotta put in effort
