Yes and yes, it seems that once you aren’t useful any more, there is no need to extend anything to you except meanness.

Good advice. I was fortunate that my parents lived well below their means, and I followed their lead on that. It meant that I could wait until I was engaged to let my now husband know what I had and what I was likely to get later. That worked out well for me. Boyfriend before that dumped me for not making enough money to suit him. I’m glad I’m not with that guy!!!

One way to know you’re on the right track, often, is to see if other people hate it. No one else has your best interests in mind as much as you do, except maybe your parents if you have good ones. Other people usually want people to do what is in their interests, not yours. Just keep in mind what the agenda of the other party is, and if it’s in your favor or not. That is my analysis.

Liberal and Democrat mean the same thing to some people. To other people, Liberal is just a brand name that means something else entirely, just like Democrat, Republican, Conservative. It’s like Tide, Starbucks, Nike, Ford, McDonalds, etc. The Nike brand means something vastly different today than it did 40 years ago. Political labels are often confused with brands and brands evolve. That’s why I said in another post that productive discussions are more likely to happen if each side defines thei…

I’ve recently had a social engineering class in a master’s program I’m in, and social engineering like politics is a neutral tool that can be used to do good or to do ill. I might even make the argument that social engineering and politics are the same thing. I learned in class that to be an effective social engineer requires humility. One must be able to empathize with the target in order to influence them. I think this is why a lot of people resort to force instead of persuasion to achieve the…

I’m partly through this episode, and kudos to all of you being willing to listen to someone explaining the difference between politics and morals. I lean conservative and have always been a libertarian in political philosophy. I’m a practicing cradle Catholic and in my 50s. The reason I lean conservative in the political sphere has to do with the role of government and individualism vs collectivism. I’m firmly on the populist side. Neither the D or R parties in the US represent me any more. I’n …

I have two pet starlings and they don’t really do much courtship behavior, but apparently it’s customary in the wild for male starlings to start the nest and advertise themselves with singing. He often puts flowers and fragrant herbs in the nest cavity along with grass and straw and stuff like that. If he attracts a female and she’s interested, she shows acceptance by throwing at least some of the nesting materials out and replacing them and finishing the nest building. This is funny. I’ve seen …

Yes he eventually revealed why so many women are afraid of him.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
