I said that it is not mutilating. How others feel about their forced genital cutting is not for you to decide. If I want to call my forced genital cutting mutilation, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Am I clear? Junk science is not going to change my mind, but if you like wasting your time as much as I think you do, go ahead and try. There's no study you can show me that I haven't seen.

Conflicts with two more recent studies, one of which is of far more relevance to western society: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35373731/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34551593/

You've checked these sources for bias and methodological flaws, yes? There's been a new study published on the HIV claim you may wish to peruse.

I can't speak for anybody else, because I already had quite a bit of remaining tissue to start working with, but I've gotten back a fair bit of sensation in the head and a ton of sensation in the inner foreskin tissue that was left. So much so that I can't ever remember having as much feeling here at 47 as any other time in my life. It's a little tough to describe what it's like, but it's not so much as an amplifier of what was there as it is I have much more variety of feeling now. Like driving…

Circumcision should be the last resort - there are other less invasive surgeries that should be explored first, like a dorsal slit, presuming you have already tried the stretching with betamethasone cream option already and it's not working. r/Phimosis may be able to help.

Have a look at r/foreskin_restoration I've been doing it for about 4 years now. It does work for me, however I always caution that everyone's experience with it may be different. For some it works great, for others it doesn't at all. I had no feeling left, so I had nothing to lose in trying it.

How would anybody know how much could be removed before functionality was impeded, though? How would our parents know? How would the doctor know? When it's done in infancy, are we not denied any possibility of knowing this? I saw that you're located in Canada. So am I (Sask). Our circumcision rate was down to 32% country wide in 2009, down from about 60% at peak. Source here - this is the same data the Canadian Pediatric Society uses for its own data here. This should all be considered before on…

How much healthy skin could someone cut off of your genitals before you wouldn't be glad anymore? I'm cut, and have never once been glad. Especially now that I live in a place where this is no longer seen as having any medical benefits whatsoever. I remember also thinking it should be parents' choice. After researching the subject more thoroughly, I could no longer support that position in good conscience. Regardless, I'm not here to make you feel bad. If you're glad, more power to you. Just rea…

cleaning and maintenance How do you figure that? The presence and functionality of balano-preputial lamina in the intact male anatomy arguably means less cleaning and maintenance for the parents vs. the need to regularly treat an open wound in a diaper.

I loathe being circumcised and have been against the practice since before I knew I was circumcised. Especially now that I live in a country where this is no longer seen as having any medical benefit anymore.
/r/MensRights14/05/20 02:51 PM

The presence and functionality of the balano-preputial lamina mimics that condition in children but is in fact completely normal. Many doctors in the US either don't know this or don't care, advising retraction well before that protective membrane is ready to let go. This causes infection or other issues, for which the doctor can successfully peddle his circumcision cure when in fact there was nothing wrong to begin with. The level of malpractice around this issue in the US is absolutely off the…

Circumcision protects against UTIs. False. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: my own medical history proves this one false. Am circumcised. Have had UTIs. It's child's play for modern medicine to cure these things... less than a week for my last one at age 8.
/r/MensRights08/05/19 04:51 PM

Having a circumcision does not make you immune to infection. Did I say it did? Is "may or may not work" sufficient reasoning to alter someone else's healthy body at birth?
/r/MensRights09/04/19 02:20 PM
6

I've had UTIs - circumcision did nothing to prevent those for me. I seriously don't get why people are so afraid of these... they sting for a bit, then the antibiotics knock them out. Less than a week for the one I had at age 8.

Decades of parts that should be protected by foreskin rubbing on clothing plus excessive hypertrophic scarring from an improperly applied Gomco clamp due to me being premature when I was cut led to almost no feeling at all by age 43. Restoration has reversed all of that sensitivity loss and then some. I'll never get back the more specialized structures circumcision ablates, but even so the difference is more than worth it. It took me a month to talk myself into trying because I knew it was going…

It's been working for me, though I usually caution people that this is something that can take years to finish, and one's results may vary. For me, though, I'm 2 years and 3 months in with more sensation than I can ever remember having before. Then again, I had almost nothing left by age 43, and therefore had little to lose by trying. Absolutely no regrets. Take a look at r/foreskin_restoration for more info.

I'm circumcised and I couldn't be happier. Glad you're ok with the way you are. The issue is a lot of us are not ok with it, and we were never given the option to decide if we wanted this. The medical excuses don't hold water. American science on this issue differs from the rest of the planet. I think I would be angry at my parents for not having it done. Having it done when you're a baby is the perfect time. Once your junk and your mind have actually developed, healing from the procedure would be very unpleasant. How would you know any of this, assuming you were circumcised in infancy as I was? fgm removes a vital part of female anotomy Not always. There are several different types, just as there are varying degrees on the male side. The recent Nagarwala case, for example, was a form of FGM arguably less invasive than routine neonatal circumcision. That said, it's not a contest. I make no distinction between the wrongness of one vs. the wrongness of the other. Nobody should be going near a kid's private parts with sharp things.

Not yours to dictate what people do. Why should it be up to someone else how much of your own genitals you get to keep? How much do they need to cut off before it becomes wrong to you?

There's a protective membrane that holds the inner foreskin to the glans - only when that detaches naturally should one clean underneath. The owner of the body part, that is, since it can take into the teen years for that to happen. Just clean the outside as you would a finger, and don't allow anyone to force retraction.

Circumcision does not prevent UTIs. Direct personal experience talking, there. Honestly, I don't know why people are so afraid of this one. Stings a bit, then the antibiotics take care of it. Less than a week in my case as an 8 year old.

The Red Pill barely even touches on the issue... I understand why, because there was way too much to explore on this topic alone to get into for a general documentary on men's rights, but it only really scratches the surface. Give the recent documentary American Circumcision a watch. The topic needed a full documentary of its own, and now it has one.

I started two years ago when it became apparent I had almost no feeling left and I wanted to do something about that. Since it takes a lot of time to grow new skin, it's literally taken years to get the progress I was after. Then again, I could be doing more than I am to speed things up some. I had more outer skin than inner when I started, and I'm just now reaching the equilibrium point between the two types. I've probably gained a good half inch of inner skin at this point using manual methods…

Essentially you stretch the remaining skin to induce cellular mitosis and grow new skin. It doesn't replace all that was cut off, but it really helps. Good gravy, does it ever help. The downside is, this process does take forever and results may vary. But I'm very glad I talked myself into it. I have more feeling now than any other point in my adult life. I don't care how many doctors push this crap. If you ask me to cut off one of the most sensitive parts of my body for any reason, you better bring your A game to the science. This is not an A game.

From my understanding there are pros and cons, for sure, but that the pros out way the cons Only in the USA. Every other country in the world (except perhaps African nations where PEPFAR has a foothold) has stopped doing this to infant boys for medical reasons. Isn’t getting circumcised suppose to help prevent diseases? Old wives' tales... none of the supposed science supporting this claim holds up under scrutiny. The US medical system has been inventing excuses to keep doing it for decades and decades. It used to be to prevent masturbation. Then it was epilepsy. Then it was cancer. Now, it's STDs and AIDS. It really speaks to the level of brainwashing required to make this ok with the masses in the USA. Personally, two years after my awakening, I still can't believe I ever said something as daft and clueless as "it should be up to the parents." Took me probably a couple months to tear down the wall in my own head about this, and I'm a preacher's kid who used to think my background made it easier to spot culty BS like this.

I cant think of one circumsized man who has been like "You know what? I wish I was never circumcised." You know what? I loathe being circumcised. From the UTIs it was supposed to prevent (but didn't) to the near complete loss of feeling by age 43 (now recovered and then some through foreskin restoration), to the fact that I now live in a country where circumcision makes me a minority, this forcing permanent body modification shit on infants needs to end.
/r/MensRights03/09/18 09:49 PM

Its easier to clean How would you ever know? You and I were both circumcised as infants, so we never had a frame of reference, did we? STFU No. This tradition harmed me greatly, and neither you nor anyone else is going to tell me I have no right to be angry. Have you researched the varying types of forced genital cutting on all genders? Not all forms are as severe as what most people think of when they hear the term FGM. Personally, I couldn't care less which is or is not worse. It's not a contest... regardless of gender, messing around with another human being's private parts at any age without waiting for their say in it is wrong.

Their task force publications seem to be pretty honest and up front about some of the data being cloudy. They don't even recommend the procedure as routine, they just say the benefits > the risks. And this position is sufficient for you to conclude that surgical intervention immediately at birth is desirable to natural evolution only in the USA, only for males? Sorry, I need something much more concrete from science than that. I'd continue this discussion further, but I'm dealing with the mother…

True, but shouldn't we really try to study the opposing position if we really want to be properly scientific? That is the problem I have with the AAP. They support only the science that confirms their interests. And contradicts everything I know about my own circumcision.

How could any of us circumcised at birth ever know this, though? The only thing I know is that by age 43, my glans had zero sensation left at all. I had a little bit left at the frenulum remnant and scar line, that was it. I had to start restoring before I got any feeling back in the glans. This loss of feeling was really the only thing that was able to convince me that maybe I wasn't so okay with being circumcised.
/r/MensRights07/07/18 05:05 PM

/r/MensRights06/06/18 07:54 PM

Glad you're cool with it but that isn't really the issue here, is it? I'll be fighting to give future boys the right to choose what happens to them until either it ends or I die. You and I should have both had that choice, because only one of us will ever be okay with it. We can get a circumcision at any time if we are uncut. Doesn't really work well going the other way.
/r/MensRights06/06/18 07:06 PM

Don't you think I know that? Is that argument supposed to convince me I should be thankful for having basic human rights stolen from me? I'm 44 years old. I had almost no feeling left down there as of last year due to decades of clothing abrasion. I had UTIs throughout childhood despite the surgical correction that was supposed to prevent them. I moved to a whole other country where circumcision is now rare, and I can smell the bullshit from here. Why can't you?

How do you completely ignore that the vast majority of men prefer to be circumcised, they’re glad they had it done at birth instead having to do it after puberty, and they’re thankful their parents made that decision for them? I am most definitely not one of those men. Why should I be forced to have my private parts cut just because some other guy likes it?

I don't care what women prefer. This was my body to do with as I pleased. And what I pleased was not "cut pieces off without anesthetic before I can even say words." If a woman is so shallow as to require I look a certain way to be with her, she doesn't deserve the time of day from me.

They were bullied into it and were in full panic mode. All of their firstborn nephews had died after birth up to that point, and I was almost a month premature, so whatever the doctor said they were going to do. However, there's been so much evidence of it and PTSD symptoms before that there's no question it goes all the way back to the start of my life. But before I knew I was circumcised and had reason to look further back than age 5, I only connected it to the abuse. And that's why I'm angry at the folks for no…

I was cut in '73 while I was three weeks or so premature for UTI prevention reasons. Doctor straight up told my parents I would die without it being done. No possibility of any anesthetic. Caused immediate PTSD. I've had symptoms of it as far back as I can remember (and my parents remember what I don't), evolving into the severe social anxiety disorder I still struggle with. I couldn't talk to strangers until I was in my twenties, so I was bullied extensively throughout my school years. Picked u…

You can restore many of the protective functions of the foreskin by inducing mitosis to grow new skin as needed. It will not replace parts that have been permanently removed like the ridged band and frenulum, but just getting the glans covered again like it was meant to be will restore a lot of feeling (if starting where I did, with almost nothing left). Upside is, it works. Downside is, it takes a really long time. I'm about a year and 4 months into it. Still have a long way to go, but so far i…

Preacher's kid, here. It's like walking up to Jesus Christ himself and slapping him in the face. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Had I gotten religion as an excuse from my parents for cutting pieces off of me, we would no longer be on speaking terms. Nothing makes me angrier than someone forcing religious BS on me. But because my parents regret it, my doctor gets to be on the end of that anger instead.

Im a circumcised male from birth, not sure what the big fuss is about. You and I had no say in the matter - that's the big fuss. We've been lied to about this by the whole US medical system. It's not cleaner. It's not healthier. It's not "extra skin." It does not prevent STDs or infection. But it will make the circumcising doctor rich at our expense.

No worries - I was 8 years old that last time. Having my front teeth twisted out by a psycho school nurse without anesthetic in grade school kind of made UTI pain a distant memory. She thought my permanent teeth would come in crooked, and also thought my front teeth were loose enough to come out without a fight. Wrong and wrong, lady. The UTI stung, but it wasn't intolerable. Kind of like a bad papercut. The tooth thing was a whole other level of hell.

I've never had a urinary tract infection, but i've heard from uncircumcised guys that it stings like a bee I have. They suck. And I'm circumcised, so have direct experience that this particular excuse for doing it is full of crap. Some are still done that tight, as there is no dotted line that says "cut here" on a newborn. I am profoundly thankful mine went the other way to the point I thought I was intact most of my life. At the same time, the AAP does see medical benefits that outweigh the risks The AAP is so full of infighting on this they can't seem to put out a current statement to replace their expired "the benefits outweigh the risks, but we don't know the risks" BS. Why would you trust them for anything, let alone advice on 150 year old quackery the rest of the world's medical establishment has condemned them for?

My point is that I am thankful for being circumcised as a baby and if done right is harmless to the baby Define "done right." I had such a loose cut that I thought I was intact for decades. I still lost nearly all sensation by age 43. How does you being happy with yours mean that all of us will or should be happy with ours? I will do the same to my kids. What if they grow up, do their research, find out most of the world doesn't do this, and decide they don't want this? Is it worth them possibly never talking to you again? I came pretty close to making that call over my own circumcision. IIRC, Canada never got as high a cutting rate as the US but it still got as high as the US is now. I'm just glad that as someone who was cut in the US but moved to Canada at age 7, people up here actually understand (for the most part) why I'm so angry about what was done to me.

That's not really an answer. Should medical textbooks teach cultural traditions or focus on teaching medical science? Both? Personally, I reckon both will have to be included until this goes away. Neither can be omitted. Doctors must be fully informed. Even if you believe only 20% of males in the US are intact (and I don't believe the number is that low anymore, even in the US), those 20% should get proper medical care, should they not?

Indeed - I always try to avoid using that number. I believe the actual number is far higher, but there's no good way to get any real data on it unless and until hospitals and doctors are compelled to stop sweeping things under the rug out of a vested financial interest to keep doing this.

Guy. As mentioned, I got UTIs as a child, not as a man. Treated successfully with antibiotics. Haven't had a problem with them in 35 years. That's how medicine is supposed to work... solving problems when/if they happen, don't you think? Appendixes and tonsils are not removed at birth. Your source has no hard data cited to back up its claims. Additionally, the AAP's statement it mentions has now expired. How would condom use in early childhood help me not get a UTI, exactly? Why on earth would you think my UTIs had anything to do with "sleeping around?"
/r/MensRights13/11/17 07:33 PM

"Circumcision might have" "The overall risk of urinary tract infections in males is low" "Circumcised men might have" "Occasionally" "cancer of the penis is rare" Is this supposed to be science? And how am I supposed to feel about that infection one when I literally got UTIs despite being circumcised?

Circumcised preacher's kid here. I'm not ok with anyone forcing any particular religion on an infant. It should be his choice alone, both which religion he identifies with and which cosmetic procedures should be done to his body. Quite frankly if my parents had cited religion as the reason I was done, I may have never spoken to them again. It took me a long time to even work up the nerve to ask them why they did it just because I didn't want that or "looks like daddy" to be the reason. I needn't…

I didn't know I had anything to deal with until I was in my 30s. I just thought I was born this way. No doctor ever told me. My folks regretted it the moment I came back from having it done, so they couldn't tell me. I found out what was done to me by watching a circ video. From there, I didn't deal with it until my 43rd birthday when the shock and denial from finding out that way wore off, and I realized I'd lost almost all sensitivity. I'm still dealing with nuclear levels of rage, but restora…

I personally don't feel the pain you speak of or any flashbacks... I was about a month premature when I was done. That said, watching one of those videos was how I learned I was done. That was a tremendous shock to my system... went right into denial for years afterward. Tried hard to convince myself I wanted it this way, ultimately the denial approach failed when I realized I was nearly numb at 43 and the scar was going nowhere. I'd never been ok with the lack of consent part of this even when …

I vote yes. Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder is no joke, profoundly damaging and life altering in severe cases. My adoptive sister and brother have struggled with it their whole lives. That sister even passed it down to her daughter due to medicating herself with drugs and alcohol. Thankfully, my niece took control of her life and broke the cycle. She and my sister don't talk. Can't say I blame her.

Jesus Christ on a cracker... the more I learn about this, the more fortunate I feel to have lived through mine. It wasn't a botch job, at least beyond the normal damage, but I was a month premature and my folks still got the hard sell. Could have gone south very easily. Starting to think it's going to take no less than massive lawsuits across the country to make a dent in this. And by country, I mean both US and Canada. It's still common up here, though that's starting to change.

Nothing saying we can't work on more than one issue at a time.

I like how the pro crowd seems to think if they troll hard enough on Reddit, they'll somehow stop us from winning this one.

Head over to r/foreskin_restoration and they'll get you started. I only had a partial cut so I'm lucky to have less I need to restore, but even after only a month it's definitely working for me. Feels like I'm sticking it to the hospital I was born in. "The hell with you guys, I'm taking it back."

It would probably work, but the increased sensitivity with clothes may be an issue. Personally, I'm restoring. I want to see what it's like to be at least close to factory default. I won't let dekeratinization happen until I have full coverage again.

Yes, via restoration. There's a subreddit for that.

I'm pretty well ok with mine. The doctor left enough I can fully sheathe at times, so at 43 I haven't had that much loss of sensitivity. That said, I can be ok with my situation and yet still recognize that it is as blatantly a human rights violation as anything. I may be ok, but I did not get a say in what was done to my body. That's wrong. Worse, the goddamn doctor outright lied to my parents to get them to agree. I'm not angry at the folks at all, I'm angry for them. If I didn't live in Canad…

That was certainly the case for my parents in '73. They used the threat of impending infection to get them to agree, saying I'd just need it done later in life. I got infected anyway, and my folks have regretted the procedure since it was done, so I hold the hospital responsible for making all three of us miserable.

That's pretty much the main reason for me, too. I grew up thinking I was normal, then after seeing a video of the procedure realizing the truth. Made me beyond livid hearing a baby scream like that and then realizing that was probably my own experience, too. The folks told me the doctor pressured them hard to do it, and they regretted it immediately. Makes me feel somewhat better knowing my sisters are as against this as I am. My eldest sister has a boy - one female doctor she went to tried to p…
