It's hard to say and, ultimately, it doesn't really matter. Some animals are monogamous, some animals are not, some don't form mating bonds of any kind. Even among primates we see that variety: Gibbons are monogamous, Gorillas are poly, chimps are promiscuous. Don't even get started on the Bonobos. Even those relationships would probably be called social constructs, though. I think people should be able to do whatever they want as long as they aren't hurting anyone. I prefer monogamy, for a vari…

Late to the party. Men of PPD, are you blue, red, or purple, and do you believe that some things are good, some things are evil? I don't really care about the pill labels. I absolutely believe that some things are good and some things are evil. If so, how would you describe your moral or ethical beliefs? I wouldn't even make an attempt to label my moral/ethical beliefs. (I know enough about philosophy to know I don't like it...but not enough to know Why? That's a little joke for you.) What is go…

Thanks for explaining that. Had no idea what the difference, or the history, was.

Without even trying she inspires me to be a better man. And how she feels so much more than I do. I mean, sometimes it drives me nuts, but I love it. I couldn't imagine feeling that much and that intensely about stuff all the time. It must be exhausting, but she never stops caring. Oh, yeah! I definitely have to say it was her legs. You can put that down! Her legs, and right where her legs meet her back. That - actually that whole area. That and - and above it.

Divorce should not be part of a marriage's vocabulary except for certain extreme circumstances--abuse, obviously, or infidelity, though some might argue that one. I just love how he frames a happy marriage as something to work at and cultivate. It is not enough to just fall in love with your partner. Falling in love is easy! Keeping that love and growing a strong partnership is something you need to choose to do, and to work at every day. This is not repeated enough. Someone posted a gif a while…

Not a popular opinion, but I'm not sure I can think of a more pervasive and more damaging idea than the notion that once you have children your spouse becomes secondary. Another vote for separate rooms.

I'm hesitant to bluntly criticize someone's faults to their face and not care about their feelings There is a difference between being straight-forward and telling someone that if Chernobyl and a shrieking harpy had a baby it would be them. You can phrase things in a way that is direct and considerate. Consider the honest approach. You don't need a speech, but just call her out on her negativity every time it happens. "Don't be so negative." Eventually, one of two things is likely to happen: eit…

Piggy-backing the top comment because it made all the important points. I don't have the money or time to go shopping for a new wardrobe, since I just started college. First, you need to find some inspiration. Magazines, online, movies, whatever--just find a handful of images that you really like. Then gradually replace the clothes you have with the clothes you want. Thrift stores can be a great place to find clothes on a bargain, with the added bonus that you can stumble across some really high…

Confidence: Accepting that failing at something isn't failure unless you stop or give up because of it. Success is almost always about trying again and again. Oh, and being able to laugh at my mistakes and really own them without letting them own me. "Yup, really fucked that one up. I'll get it next time." might end up on my tombstone. Value/Worth: By having honor and integrity, which I'd probably define as staying true to my principles no matter what. Be honest, do the right thing, work hard, y…

I couldn't begin to guess what might be a good hobby for you. What are you interested in? Is there any skill or craft you've always wanted to learn? Since you specifically want to meet female friends I'd suggest you look into some typically female hobbies. One word of caution: You can find female friends in almost any field, but some things will definitely have more men than women--woodworking, brewing, shooting, etc. Plenty of women do those things, so don't be discouraged from pursuing somethi…

The interviews were conducted through the internet. The sample pool was selected through the mail and telephone. The methods they chose to recruit already eliminated everyone that doesn't have a phone, or doesn't answer a phone for unfamiliar numbers. It doesn't say how they chose addresses to mail to, but unless they chose a reasonable, randomized selection of the country then they're only getting the opinions of people in a local or regional area. On top of that, the methods they chose to recr…

Look to your hobbies. Try to find a group that shares that interest in your area. If your current hobbies don't lend themselves to that, do it the other way around. Find a group for a hobby or interest and go to a meeting.

Don't trust those results. It was a survey conducted through the mail and telephone, it had a small sample size that was probably local or regional at best. It's... just bad. Bad. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case. Women are expected to have both a career and kids--work until they're ready to pop, give the kid to someone else to take care of as soon as possible, and get back to the grind. Who would actually want to do that? I suspect that more people do not want kids now than…

My reaction If only because it's so damn hard to find a place where people seem to want to have a marriage like my grandparents did.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
