I am unsure, but I'm wary of rings with softer or more brittle gems, like emerald or opal.

I look at vintage and antique jewellery as a hobby, and just bought myself an onyx and diamond piece last tax return. I would like to choose together, or be able to use my mad research skills to find something beautiful and sunscreen-proof! I guess others might not see it as romantic or official enough, but that's OK!

Curious what you all think of this? It's not perfect, but it sets out clearly one perspective of a woman who is not interested in commitment-free situationships.

I've had way too many bureaucratic hassles as a result of using a middle name as a first name (and being named after my mum) to even consider it. Any man who'd chuck a tanty over it is not for me! Also, I hate the whole "your original name is a patriarch's anyway" argument! It's my bloody name!

I dated someone who yanked my arm back in a "cute" way when I was too far ahead. Took multiple tries to get him to stop. My partner now pulls no such bullshit, and we keep pace together!

The You're Wrong About podcast on Anna Nicole was eye-opening. He was asking to marry her and care for her for years. As soon as she did, the jokes started. Warning: This gets incredibly sad and infuriating https://open.spotify.com/episode/0HdrSP3CxHmV1NeJvvU7Fz

Melbournian sidenote: Is fake lashes another beauty standard blokes here have taken in via cultural osmosis and now see as a wishlist expectation? (All the while acting like it has always been the requirement, of course!) Do they expect full contour and hi-beam highlight too? I'm in a relationship, so I'm totally out of the loop with the current fuckery, except for FDS.

I do love that he is being called out so much in the comments. His all-caps denials of hypocrisy or meanness are beautiful. Someone actually told him: And I'm pretty sure women would want to have sex with someone they deem attractive too He came back with: WHICH IS ME!

Mate, it's about the only time the blokes here in Oz ditch the metric system! When I was dating, there was a lot of, "I'm 174cm, which is basically 6ft*" going around. I'm only 169cm, but some guys got incredibly weird about my lofty height! Some would constantly bring it up on dates, or dip out on OLD chats once they realised how tall I am. *Nope.

The impassioned arguments that "intent is more important than effect" and that asking for something - anything - else to replace his primary school art project would be ungratefuuuuuull are breaking my brain. It's unsealed wood and poorly fastened rhinestones or nothin', apparently!

Yes, it does. If someone were to check up on me like this, they wouldn't get very far. The reception either would not or could not give personal info like that on the phone. And requesting me in person would be an ID swipe card or two away from impossible and creepy. And speaking as someone who has worked in banking and finance call centres, there is no way I am I messing with my job to look up a person's file like that!

Most guys I've dated are slower than my natural walking pace. Even had one who'd "cutely" yank my arm back if I was walking to fast or too far ahead of him (took multiple requests for him to finally stop that shit). I'm supposed to get gussied up to amble at a snail's pace with a stranger, side-by-side? Nah, mate. This would be awful any time of the year in Melbourne weather!

They act like abortion care is the easiest and cheapest thing in the world to access and experience! I live in a fairly liberal Aussie state, but there are still logistical and financial hurdles! But condoms are, like, mean to a lot of blokes!

An FB friend of mine has talked about her kid's dad just dumping their daughter after 'his' weekend at her place in her PJs before school, and spending $200 on his other kid's gifts, while spending $0 on their mutual kid. So, minimal effort, with spiteful gifting aimed at the mother!

I love vintage/antique jewellery, so I can drill down and research and spot something beautiful at any price point! I wouldn't be comfortable with carrying 3 months of my BF's salary around, so $2000-5000 (AUD) would be more my speed. It would need to withstand my clumsiness and sunscreen!

Oh shit. This just reminded me of my male friend's 21st. His brother expressed to my friend that he thought I was attractive by saying, "I wonder what it takes/how long it takes to get her drunk!" So, I ran metric conversions. The 144lbs absolute maximum seems especially (!) weird. a 145lb person is less than half a kilo of a bridge too far? I know it's just controlling weirdness on his part, but how would he know a woman is ruinously embiggened?

For shit's sake! Why are people happy about this? My mum's village in The Philippines was flattened when she was a few months old because there was an airstrip that was tactically valuable to the two armies fighting. That definitely doesn't make my opinion more valid or anything, but it does help me understand the cost of cheering on armed conflicts.

I adored Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delusions_of_Gender ). It tackles issues around gender essentialist narratives in research and society. Around the time that I read it, I dated a bloke who assumed women get paid less because - he reckoned - his female coworkers rested/tired out more during the day than the male ones. I did not date him for much longer!
