I agree, there is evidence the public is not privy to. And as a general rule cases involving NGRI are above the public’s pay grade. I think people presuming guilt or innocence is hasty and we should let the legal process take its course.

Post partum psychosis is not a choice. But sending her husband away was a choice. She had to make a series of decisions during the commission of the crime which culminated in her murdering all three of her children. Several of these decisions were calculated and indicated a level of planning and an understanding of the nature of the act. You can try to justify it all you want by throwing the blame onto men and making claims about dodgy motives, but that’s just what abouttism. We are talking abou…

Absolutely, I actually worked in a state mental hospital. I was able to gain a bit of insight into the process of both restoring patients to competency and charting on their progress, these charts being used to make or break their claim to not guilty by reason of insanity. Psychosis can range from being as mild as slight paranoia and delusions which would not be noticeable to anyone observing or interacting with the afflicted to full blown hallucinations, mania, homicidal and suicidal ideation w…

I can see what you mean. I suppose I would say that in empathizing with Clancy’s position many women are overlooking the facts and gravity of Clancy’s role and accountability in this crime rather than the crime itself. This is not an indictment against people who are empathizing with Clancy. It is merely an observation that some of these people are not observing this in an objective and unbiased lens. This is the type of thing that causes people to recuse themselves from juries. I can agree that…

I don’t necessarily believe reacting to stimuli rises to the level of consciousness and conscious choice. The thing is it’s all circumstantial, highly variable and no two cases of psychosis are going to be completely alike. That’s why I referenced Lindsay Clancy’s action of taking the step to send her husband out as evidence of guilt. She wanted to hurt her kids, and knew that he would likely stop her so she took an action to prevent him from doing so. That is a level of planning and an awarenes…

You certainly can still know the difference between right and wrong in a psychotic state. The law recognizes this as do psychiatric institutions. Psychosis is not by default a not guilty verdict. There are degrees to psychosis. I can agree that your explanation can potentially be correct. Although it is more likely that she sent her husband away specifically so she could commit the murders as opposed to it being an extremely tragic coincidence.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/08/26 05:15 PM

This certainly could be the case. Though Occam’s razor would beg to differ. The simplest explanation is typically the correct one. Is it more plausible that she sent her husband away and then just happened to fall into psychosis deep enough that she unknowingly and unintentionally killed her children? Or that she wanted to hurt her children, knew this act was wrong and sent him away specifically so he could not interfere and intervene on behalf of the children. This is important and the crux of …

The biggest evidence I’ve seen of planning would be that she sent her husband away so she could commit the murders. This is evidence that she was trying to be alone with the children to commit the act particularly given that everyone she interacted with on that day described her as coherent and doing well. It also shows that she recognized the act was wrong and that if her husband had been there he would try to stop her. As far as I can tell that is the strongest evidence showing that she was ra…

I think a lot of the upset is due to the fact that there are people arguing that she should go without consequence. That she is in fact not guilty and many people especially women making the argument that her husband is somehow the one to blame. I 100% agree that she was failed by the healthcare system. This is not unique though. Many people are failed by the healthcare system every year. Many people commit terrible and violent crimes when they were sick and trying to get help/receiving treatmen…

I agree.

Regardless they have mental health issues related to the events of pregnancy and birth. We don’t need to get bogged down in semantics my point was related to the original claim that a man who committed this type of act wouldn’t elicit this societal response regardless of his mental state.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/08/26 04:00 PM

Agreed, I’m not saying it’s the same mechanism. Just putting out there for the sake of the debate that it is clinically recognized that men can have mental health disturbances associated with their partners pregnancy and the birth. The argument was that a man who committed this type of crime would not elicit the level of sympathy and have people believing he is not guilty. People then responded that men don’t experience PPD which is technically true but men do experience mental health issues rel…

Men can have an onset of clinical depression or psychosis that is correlated to the partum experience of their partner. This is a recognized phenomenon that is acknowledged by the DSM 5. Hence why I said it is recognized as MDD with peripartum onset.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/08/26 03:53 PM

You can be consciously aware in a psychotic break. Psychosis does not automatically mean you are no longer in control of your actions and don’t know the difference between right and wrong. That’s why there is a burden of proof for not guilty by reason of insanity. And even with that burden of proof we still have people that malinger and claim that defense when they were in full control of their faculties. You can be mentally ill and still be guilty in the commission of a crime. With Lindsay Clan…

Women are actually more commonly known to commit infanticide. Men and women commit filicide at roughly the same rate. But no one is arguing that men shouldn’t be held accountable. That’s what is causing the uproar around this case. The people who believe Lindsay Clancy is absolved of her crimes because of her mental illness.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/08/26 03:28 PM

It is less common but men can suffer from post partum depression and potentially psychosis. It is recognized by the dsm 5 as major depressive disorder with peripartum onset.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/08/26 03:25 PM

I believe many women are empathizing with the condition of post partum depression/psychosis and in doing so are overlooking the facts and gravity of the crime. While it is tragic that Lindsay did not get the help she needed it does not absolve her of her crimes. Many people commit acts of violence while in the throes of psychosis or other psychiatric conditions and are ultimately still found guilty in a court of law. You can be mentally ill and still be guilty. To be proven not guilty by reason …

I agree 100%. Anecdotally my current relationship started when I was making less than 20k a year. My fiance was not at all driven by money and had no guarantees that I would end up bringing more to the table(fortunately I have) when we fell in love. I would also be curious to see what people with this mindset towards treating your partner would view as being used.

I think in most cases this goes both ways. A large portion of women would be just as fast to want to end things if they felt there man was no longer interested sexually. However, I also do not agree with OPs premise that most healthy relationships have the men or women using each other for x. Of course there are unhealthy toxic relationships where people do get used. But I don’t believe paying for dates and spoiling a partner and treating them is inherently bad.

To be fair I believe a large portion of women would also break up with their man if they stopped wanting sex in the relationship as well. I also don’t believe either is using each other for sex or resources for the most part excluding outliers who are in toxic relationships.

Idk a while back I kept getting theses videos in my fb reels where this guy was a football player would serve dads who had been negligent in paying child support. He would tackle them on camera and slap the court documents on their chest and walk off. People loved it and the comments were full of people talking crap. I’m sure you could still find the videos.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
