1	"Why women prefer male bosses" (on Irish national broadcaster's website). I don't know whether this bias exists or not, but if it does this article, not surprisingly claims it's not female bosses' fault. As usual, the finger is pointed at men & the solution is more needs to be done to help women I work in the startup world and mainly in operations. Most people are highly numerate, logical and stoic in this space. I know a number of highly successful and driven female COOs and they all complain about female leadership. They even get targeted by other females. I think it is especially tough for women who are direct and not overly empathetic as this goes against the normal stereotype. Like with equality act when the Englishman won a case against a Scott. It is created for one purpose but due to blind lady justice it functions quite differently. 2	'Women work longer hours than men' In the UK they call it the wage gap but they are referring to income gap. In most western countries it is illegal to pay a different amount for the same job. This year in the UK all companies over 250 had to report median income split by gender. We are able to catagorise people in far more granular and effective ways to predict outcomes than just using gender. Look at any marketing department of a large company or any good startup. We can do it already but I agree making it law is not realistic. This policy does seem to be completely ideologically based but at least this policy is less discriminatory than the previous proposal. It even fucking says that in the report but then it used as one of their main arguments. The rate of incidences of serious self-harm (i.e. that causes hospitalisation) is the same across genders but men are 3 times more likely to kill themselves. I have read the article and checked out the policy paper, in both it says they will trial residential centres instead of community prisons just for women who received short sentences as they have different needs and our often the primary care giver when compared to men. 5	[Update] Switching my gender for cheaper Auto Insurance I was gonna chime in and say this but you did it for me. I used to be in insurance as an analyst and we do just go with the numbers. In a funny way it does show that there are stark difference between the genders and this is a global phenomenon.
