Possession of pornography in a deployed location is a punishable offense so nobody bothers anymore. A lot of guys I know have an external hard drive full of smut that gets put in storage when the deployment is over and comes back out when the orders get cut.

Married military members recieve what's called Family Seperation Allowance when they are deployed overseas or otherwise forcibly removed from a spouse, but only if they have a legally binding marriage certificate, so there are actually some benefits to it in certain situations. That said, military males are most at risk for hypergamous behavior because of those long deployments.

The point you're missing is that the military has every right to censor a soldier/sailor/airman/marine, because it almost wholly runs your life. There are certain things they can't make you do, but for the most part, you have no say in anything. As to the overreacting because of unrelated incidents, that just a normal day in the military. In my experience, a lot of these sexual assaults are imagined, or otherwise blown out of proportion.
