False rape accusations are wrong for both reasons. They're wrong for the damage they cause to the victim of the accusation AND future victims of rape. You don't just get convicted of things for the hell of it. I can't say for Ireland but in the US we require "proof beyond a reasonable doubt" to convict people. Sometimes innocent people get screwed but it's not as common as some people would like to think.
