Torture. The Torture is fucking horrific. But it doesn't apologize for it, I think the way they used it made you experience more empathy for the tortured than for the classic "well torture might be justified if" crap. But again, it's bad "cause you can kill hookers."

You know. Maybe it's because they are having manly issues, like their testicles are sweltering, and they need to air them out? Are you saying men don't have the right to maintain a healthy temperature of their reproductive organs?

the egalitarian sniff test is simply: removing sex, is the statement logical? Her issue is unnecessarily a sexist one, but the issue is valid regardless of her prejudice.

Does it pass the egalitarian snuff test? We need structural changes that make positions in leadership more accessible for all. Yeah, it does. Newsflash, single men and women with kids in senior leadership positions have the same problems.

Growing up in a voluntary child support agreement between my mother and father (not involving the state apparatus) in what I thought was an amicable agreement the gp rings true. It may not always be the case, but living rent controlled with no car on welfare with the same budget I could have fed 3x as many kids as my mother. But I guess that's what happens when you 'want to live your life too.' My father worked 90+ hour weeks as soon as I was old enough to babysit to support the two families and…

If I was that child's father, I'd rather she be in CPS with a foster family than in the hands of that psychopath.

It's cool we're not all evil rapists. My wife has a PTSD trigger for fire. She lived through a terrible one. She lights candles and can light a cigarette, but being close enough to someone burning plastic in a campfire ... she will try to get as far from it as possible and gets very uncommunicative. If she was really triggered on talk of rape, she wouldn't be able to bring it up and the conversation couldn't have been had to say she couldn't hear about it. QED.

VB is a bitching speaker. This person was targeting her because she doesn't pander to their views. If BSides shut the talk down this person must have actually had some legal backing, they've had some talks that I'm sure some fortune 50s would have loved to stop, and they went on anyways. I didn't even know this, I met her at a Skytalk and was impressed. Although, I don't agree with all of her talking points, she's well spoken and puts together entertaining presentations.

I'll believe we have started the wheels on "chivalry" equality when I see the following in one day: A woman give up a seat for a man on public transit. A woman hold the door for a man. A woman being expected to pay for dinner. A woman buy a man a drink from across the bar. None of those scenarios are things I haven't seen, but every time I see them it stands out because it is contra to social norms. Nothing prevents human beings from treating each other equally except their own prejudices. Peopl…

Since being scolded about my mistaken belief of the lack of a woman's movement toward getting into more combat oriented roles in a previous post, I did some research. Women serve in combat roles in Israel, Russia, China, and Vietnam. Bigots choose to inflict their beliefs on others but it doesn't change the fact that if they were out in the hills of the eastern front during WW2 they'd die just as well to a female snipers bullet as to a male one. Some propaganda: http://englishrussia.com/2012/03/…

If the person is a reasoning Feminist, the above need not apply. But if they were a reasoning feminist, they wouldn't dismiss MR issues.

I suggest not talking to most feminists about "Men's Rights" But calling them human rights. And using gender neutral terminology whenever possible to define issues. You'll find if you don't say "MAN" at all they'll agree with you. And at the first moment you do they'll disagree, so go as long as you can before bringing up the dichotomy and then say "Woman or Man" as one of your statements. For instance, a person should have every right to decide what happens to their body. Everyone should have e…

If we (humanity) are to progress as a people we cannot allow the willful ignorance of small groups prevent the whole from continuing the trend of equality and progress. You can't stop them from being ignorant but an educated consensus can be found with people who have the capability to think dynamically. Isms and ists are full of malcontents incapable of this. Arguing for reason with someone completely capable of making their belief fit into nearly any rationale is a waste of your time.

Yeah, you know. Seperate but equal. Edit: Since people seem to be missing the point, let me elaborate. Homelessness is a human rights issue, not a male/female one. Creating seperate institutions is just nonsense, and perpetuates sexual discrimination.

Normally you get told to be a healer cause you suck at everything else, not because you're a girl. What normally happens is you get hit on by everyone, and given potions, raid positions that you didn't have to work as hard to get, and invites to guilds because you're a female. Females in MMOs are typically at an advantage to their male counterparts. But at a certain point it doesn't matter.. The DPS meter doesn't lie, and if you're a crappy tank/healer everybody dies. You don't last long as a cr…

In Israel, it started as a concession to necessity, and eventually set a tone for equality. Women can now serve in nearly every role in the IDF. Women in the US cannot serve in anywhere near as many roles as those in the IDF, but Feminists aren't fighting for those rights... Edit: I had no idea

I think humanist makes more sense. And "better than" language doesn't help. When done right, humanism should be about equal rights for all. Feminism is about increasing rights for one group. Which when there's a negative disparity makes sense, but continuing beyond disparity into privilege is not equality.

I like to think of it as human rights. Giving an issue a gender immediately alienates ~50% of the population. Good on you.

I have not expressed any wants, you have projected a desire onto me based on your prejudice. I also have not inferred any genders, you have done so based upon an inequitable framework in here contained. Please tell me more how I am furthering a desire for inequity...
/r/MensRights11/07/12 02:23 AM

Since you inferred that gender relationship from my statement, it's pretty clear that the inequity is pretty deep seeded. This is after two parties have decided to start a clock. Through legal means the following is true: Party A can decide: Nothing. Party B can decide if they will have 0% of a responsibility, 50% of a responsbility, and 100% of the responsibility. This is not equitable, regardless of the actions previous to this.

I would say the perpetuation of child support in situations where the one DNA contributor is required to provide assistance for a child they did not agree to having is pretty clear evidence of inequity. If the decision was to be made by either contributor and both held veto over said biological process, it would be different. Since one party always holds the decision firmly in their hands it is the very definition of oppression.

I think it's pretty clear, thinking people would have a hard time associating with any "party" because to do so is to relegate yourself to compromise. Democracy would work much better if it weren't a republic of dollars, perpetuating it by compromising drives me crazy. I can believe all humans are entitled equal rights without agreeing with anything else that people who believe the same thing do. That shouldn't cause me to be associated with any "side." I try and bring that to light with removin…

Think about this from a homosexual/lesbian perspective, there is no gender role so you have to verbally communicate your request. The language and protocol of going on a dutch date is simple: You like to go dutch with me at <place>? (Request to accompany) not: Would you like to go to dinner? (Invitation with you organizing.) and definitely not: Lemme buy you dinner. (Dumbass)

Gender Neutral Statement: If you walk down the street at 4 am naked and drunk you are increasing your chances of being sexually assaulted. Not doing so reduces ones risk.

Taking gender out of the equation: Attraction = perceived attractiveness of the observer. Attractive individual is approached by not as attractive individual and failed pick up attempts are performed. Attractive individual shames not as attractive individual for being creepy and attempting to start a conversation. Not as attractive individual cries. Attractive individual continues shaming not as attractive individual. Attractive individual is a jerk.

Women in class together learning well + Man in class who knows material asking jerky questions = Women should learn together without men. Subtracting Gender from both sides. People in class together learning well + person in class who knows material asking jerky questions = people should learn together without people. It doesn't pass the acid test. The answer is up before the conclusion, don't be a jerk when you're at a conference.
