It's still subjective. Some men think Anya Taylor-Joy is weird-looking and too bony. I think she's gorgeous. Others think Zendaya is on par with any supermodel. I think she looks like a goblin and has nothing going on for her, body-wise.

Location means a lot. I'm currently splitting my time living in the south one week and New England the next. In the small city (pop. ~35k) in the south, which is semi-rural, I can get maybe 1 or 2 matches per month on the apps. Up north, in the middle of a much larger city (pop. ~125k) with many other towns close by, I get around two dozen or more per week.

I saw something like this happen but with the genders reversed. Man had a daughter, divorced the mother, ended up marrying another woman. The new wife put in a lot of work to be a mother to the stepdaughter and they got along well. Guy woke up one day, told her he wanted a divorce and was going back to his first wife. She lost her husband and stepdaughter instantly.

"The Wall" is a myth made up by bitter men in an attempt to belittle the women that they claim rejected them. I've seen so many women past the so-called Wall that had men coming out of the woodwork for them. I worked with a woman who had three kids from three different men, was in her mid to late thirties, and men would chase her down. One guy tried to get her phone number while they were both driving and next to each other in traffic. She often shared these types of stories (and there was no re…

This has been my experience as well. Very few Meetup groups near me that would be suitable for anything. I've seen many groups that specifically say that single males are not allowed. I assume this is because men show up and either are creeps or end up causing drama. I've also thought about going to a local church but have not been a believer for more than half my life. I'm not militant about it like you might see on Reddit, but I would feel like a fraud. In my area, I see a lot of "Jesus first"…

This reminds me of something that happened very early in my career. The place I worked at got a new hire in my department. She was an attractive young woman, which was a rarity for IT in those days and that area. Right off the bat, she got preferential treatment, things that certainly were never offered to me. I did not treat her any different from my male coworkers and that apparently rubbed her the wrong way. About six weeks after she came on, we ended up being the only two techs on site at lu…

I appreciate it but I'm not considering international dating. The group I looked at was strictly in the US. It was just that they had no one near me. It's understandable...I live in a terrible area in one of the worst US states. Plus I kind of doubt there are many 'tours' going to Russia or Ukraine these days...right?

I actually found some reviews of the service while I was talking to them. They were legitimate, just very expensive and I think meant for people with a lot more money than me (I just broke into six figures a couple of years ago). Most of the male complaints were about how the women had not been screened or vetted, with one guy having a woman he was set up with say she had only talked to someone for 15 minutes before getting added into the system. It apparently means there are a fair number of su…

I'm not sure about matchmakers. I looked into one recently. I was expecting to pay a couple of thousand dollars, unsure of what to expect. Nope. This outfit wanted $50k up front with the promise of ten introductions. I was also told that due to my age (mid-40s) and location, I would have to travel for these introductions because the closest women in their database were at least a three-hour drive from me. It basically had the same problems as dating apps, only a lot more expensive.

At about the same rate as women of other ages? Yes.

"The Wall" is an easily dispelled myth. You would have to exist solely online in order to have a chance of believing it. Just by human nature, women are desired at virtually every age. Do most men find the average 24-year-old woman more attractive than the average 44-year-old woman? Yes. Would a man in his 40s or 50s turn down a 44-year-old woman? Usually not. The whole "high value/low value" system is also useless. I've seen attractive, educated women in their mid-20s that go dateless, while ri…

I guess I can expand on that. While my own experience with a stepparent makes me hesitant, I was open to it for a long time due to my age. But my actual experience with single mothers has turned me off to it. Over the past 7-8 years, I've dated or tried to date a number of single mothers, and each time, the kids got in the way. I'm sure a couple of those times were the woman using her children as a convenient excuse to brush me off, but others clearly weren't. Trying to date and take care of chi…

The main reason I'm single is the lack of mutual attraction. The women I find myself attracted to are almost always not single, and the ones that are single aren't attracted to me. On the other hand, I'm not attracted to most of the women who have been attracted to me. My one LTR ended because we were both kind of lukewarm in attraction but felt like it was good enough. We grew apart as a result and ended it amicably. I've tried dating, but I'm in a position, both mentally and geographically, th…

You don't ask out women in your social circle. You make it clear to them that you are looking for a date/partner, and then they introduce you to their friends that aren't part of the group. Years ago, I knew an older lady who was determined to set me up with someone long-term. She would ask her sister about any single woman near where I lived and funnel phone numbers/emails to me. It never worked out long-term, but the women she introduced me to were far better than those other friends set me up…

My longest relationship was with a Romanian woman. I didn't go abroad to find her, she was in the US working as a teacher as part of a state program. While it didn't lead to marriage, I can tell you that it was way better than my other relationships. She offered to cook often. I didn't expect this and never asked, it just happened. If we went out to eat and found something particularly tasty, she would sometimes learn how to make it so we could have it at home. When we lived together, she cleane…

Looks and weight can be tied together. I have dated a woman who was 6'1" and maybe 130 lbs. Great body but a face like a muppet. On the other hand, I've pursued a woman who was maybe 5'4" and 180 lbs. She carried it well, had a cute face, gorgeous hair, and a really appealing voice. For me: Looks - 35%. I have to be physically attracted to someone. I tried a relationship without this and it was not good. Weight - 10%. Ties into the above. Generally, regardless of height, 190 lbs is my upper limi…

On dating apps? The number of women who talk about how many countries they've been to and how many they plan to go to. I immediately think "expensive" and swipe left. I work in healthcare and the doctors I work with, all of whom are pulling a minimum of $300k/yr, travel far less than these women. I have no clue how I'd be able to keep up.

Height: no preference, I've dated women from 4'11" to 6'2" Income: anything reasonable, 30k-80k/yr Race: no preference, I've dated women of various races/ethnicities Body type: anything up to excessively obese...visible fat rolls on the arms, generally round in shape, those are a no-go. I've been attracted to teeny tiny women that weigh 90lbs, as well as ladies that were in the 180lb range. House: I'd prefer no house so we can buy a house together if it works out. Not a dealbreaker though Kids: …

I'm not necessarily a fan of the AF/BB stuff that is pushed so heavily here but would this not be the other side of the BB equation?

I don't feel like I have a type. I've thought about this before and the women I have been attracted to, dated, and been in relationships with have all been pretty varied. I won't post pictures but about the only commonality is that these women aren't dramatically overweight and are traditionally feminine. By overweight, I mean they retain some feminine figure and are not approaching a round shape, and they have no visible fat folds or that awful 'overstuffed sausage' look in their arms. That doe…

I work for a healthcare org, and my office is in the largest hospital in the division. I'd say I see less than five or six attractive women at work each day, among a couple of hundred. Granted, some other things factor into that. I'm in the southern US, where obesity is rampant. And I'm also in a relatively rural area...the town I'm in has a population under 40k. The trope of the 'hot nurse' is more of a myth around these parts, though that only disappeared in the past decade or so. On the other…

There's literally a top post on another subreddit (probably r/Tinder...I only saw it on the Popular tab) where a woman rejects a guy for only being 6 ft tall, saying "bye-bye short king".

10%-20% of relationships start at work from what I've read. I know quite a few marriages at work between co-workers, including a good friend of mine. Keep in mind my workplace has several hundred people present at any given time and there are multiple large departments. People tend to date/marry people they see at work, but don't necessarily work with daily.

Only half? Just those two criteria alone eliminates about 95% of who I see on OLD.

Lack of options. Dating is a numbers game and the numbers aren't on my side. I'm in my mid-40s and I can't tell you the last time I met a woman, socially or professionally, that was single. I'm high up enough in my organization's leadership that I feel like I would be risking my career if I tried to approach a woman at work (already had a near miss 3 years ago), but it's no big loss because I don't find many of them attractive. Covid has pretty much killed the social scene. I also don't drink al…

The poly relationships I've seen fall into two categories: a modestly attractive woman, usually nerdy/geeky, with a handful of less attractive men, or a group of unattractive people, usually overweight. There are always more men involved than women in either case.

I would agree in part. Maybe not the 'only men' but men with lower standards can typically sleep around more. I have a friend who is 31-32 that I was a little jealous of, as I am coming up on almost a year with no dates while he is often deciding between two or three women at a time. He finally showed me pictures of these women and it was a bit jarring. The ages were all over the place, from 18 to 55. Some were considerably overweight, most I would not have given a second look. Maybe two out of …

The book is Dataclysm. It was written by one of the founders of OKCupid after he left the company. The data was gathered back before they sold out and became awful. They used to have an OKCupid labs that users could opt in to where they performed social experiments that gave them data like this.

While not touching on your main point, you have mislabelled the charts you linked. You either misunderstand their intent or are being purposefully misleading to prove your point. I've seen those charts before because I read the book in which they were published. The study presented both men and women with a set of pictures of people of the opposite sex and asked them to rate their attractiveness. It did not give the age of the people in the pictures. But it also did not ask the people in the stu…
