That's not a $102 premium, that's what you pay out of pocket for the premium. The rest is taken out of your paycheck via the employer contribution. I'd rather run my own business than find a new employer to slave away for, but with the individual market like it is I can't. With Medicare level coverage I could buy a decent supplement and do so.

Quality of care may be higher if you can get it. But in my area individual plans run in the 20-30k a year in premiums with a large deductable. And being forced into a plan based on your employer's choices sits poorly with my freedom loving side just as much as a government run or financed system Listen, I'm not sure socialized healthcare or even a big increase welfare states is the solution. Other countries have socialized healthcare (UK) or larger welfare states with regard to healthcare (Cananda, much of Europe) and these costs are much lower compared the the US for consumers.

Not always (I was surprised by this myself, but there are type 2's who are not overweight or obese). But there is a high correlation and almost certainly a (statistically) causal link
