We see this in America where prisons are very much for punishment, vs somewhere like Norway that focuses on rehabilitation. Also, something to point out, almost nobody gets life sentences. That is extremely rare. Most murder convicts serve less than 10 years in prison. If punishment is the goal, why are they being let out? Because it isn’t. Laws can only work if there’s a certain amount of understanding for the human element.
