If in a bad neighbourhood, you are of course more wary, but wariness is something, baseless fear another. And in this case, it was baseless fear. Just wanted to add that from Norwegian/Scandinavian history, the women had sole custody of the keys to the farm. If she felt her man had wronged her, she was in her right to deny him food, shelter and companionship. She was also the owner of the trells/slaves, and could do with them as she pleased.
