Nah, Wicca is just as bad as the others (unless you’re talking about Dianic Wicca). Only difference between that and Christianity anymore is that women are seen as coven property instead of their husband’s or father’s property.

Yeah, waiting 5-10 years is actually a good thing if you meet in HS or as undergrads.

I just realized that the age gap is the same as that of my (long ago divorced) parents and now I’m a bit uncomfortable. More proof my biological father is a NVM.

I almost got grounded for not being willing to help my stepdad find porn online (it was the 90s, and my sarcastic teenage self figured if he couldn’t figure out how to find it on his own then he didn’t deserve it), and also for not being willing to watch it with him (mom got word of that one and made it clear that under no circumstances would her minor children be looking at porn with their stepfather). I just got banned from using the computer. For anything. Including schoolwork. Which ultimate…

Depends on your perspective. I grew up poor AF, my ring was about $1k, and I’m super self conscious of that because it seems like such a large amount of money.

Lucky you - I dated a porn addict in my early 20’s (he was ten years older). Only guy I’d ever seen with ED. Prior to that I thought only guys in their 50’s and up got it.

Some of the math isn’t adding up. That said, I feel awful for this woman. She was broken even before she met her husband.

I had a flashback to when I was 15-16 and had major crushes on some early-20-something guys I worked with. Even asked a couple of them out. One was 20 when I was 15, the other was 23 when I was 16-17. Both firmly rejected me, citing my age as the reason (basically, I was more like a little sister than a potential partner). I was hurt by the rejection at the time (and a little insulted by the ’little sister’ part) but looking back decades later I realize they were doing the right thing. It explai…

I really hate that waiting for things like marriage to live together is lumped in with all sorts of toxic purity culture beliefs. There are perfectly valid reasons for moving slowly in that regard that don’t require telling girls they’ll be "damaged goods" if they give in to perfectly natural desires with a HVM they’re not yet married to.

I remember being praised for being "low maintenance". I should have known that was code for "I can do the bare minimum with you" but I was young.

1) not all intersex conditions result in ambiguous genitalia. Only about 1/100,000 do. 2) 2% is still small enough to constitute a statistic anomaly, or what’s known in statistics as an outlier. Anomalies aren‘t used in studying a general population.

At least it’s porn featuring adults. A particularly pathetic pick-me I made the acquaintance of years ago was interviewed by police over her BF looking at and distributing CSA images. She claimed to have been disgusted but wanted to get to understand his kink better. If she shows her face anywhere again she’s getting called out on that.

Yup, throw in the fact that there’s a ton of polyamory and “sex positivity” in those groups and it’s messy AF.

It predates TikTok. When I was in my early 20s I dated a LVM in his mid 30s. He left me for a woman who had just turned 19.

Ugh, I’m reminded of how a friend asked me how I “convinced” my husband to marry me, since she was trying to get him to pop the question. ”Refuse to move in without a ring and a date“ was not the answer she wanted to hear.

Making people uncomfortable for pressing on with questions about that should be more of a thing. A friend of mine was once asked why she bothered getting married if kids were never in the plan. She responded completely deadpan: ”because I require a certain level of commitment from a partner before discussing my bowel movements with them”. She hasn’t been asked about it since. Or invited back to brunch with those relatives but I’m not sure she considers that a great loss.

I learned to weed out LVM/NVM by telling them I would only indulge in BDSM if I was exclusively the dominant one. Not one guy ever took me up on it. Or even called back for that matter.

Poly people, in my experience, don’t tend to have any interesting things to say about themselves other than that they’re poly. It gets old. Also, finding a poly person who doesn’t use porn is basically impossible. Doesn’t matter the gender - it’s all pornsick men and bi-for-attention Cool Girls.

I had a boss who runs a big conference in my industry evict a couple people from the event because (surprise) they were into BDSM and poly and were harassing women at the conference. One guy thought it was a good idea to have his dom parade him around the lobby in his collar - at a fucking business conference, where everyone's trying to network. Lemme guess, kinkster boy screamed discrimination?

Mentioned this on another thread: there are some poly people who manage to keep it healthy, but that’s due to them not making it the most interesting thing about themselves. Those folks, I like to be around.

Yup, the “help, help, I’m being repressed!” BS is super frustrating. I do know some cool people who are poly, but they’re cool because they don’t base their entire personality around it.

And ironically the worst about respecting boundaries. They can chant “safe, sane, and consensual” all they want but I’ve never been to a sex/BDSM club that wasn’t predatory as fuck.

There’s a song that goes “it’s never who you want to be polyamorous who’s actually polyamorous” and that graphic hits it dead-on.

I've never known a single libfem who found sex work "empowering" who didn't have a ton of resources and a wealthy family to fall back on. Even the more innocuous stuff like burlesque is filled with women like this.

Conversely, couples who don't cohabit before marriage are more likely to come from backgrounds where divorce is not seen as a viable option under any circumstance.

I think there's some value in living together before marriage, but make sure you've discussed it and are on the same page about getting married if you're going to do that.

I do know of one person whose allergies are so numerous that she can't safely eat in restaurants (literally the only way she can keep herself safe is to never eat anything she or her husband didn't make), so this wouldn't strike me as being a super odd response.

That's a thing I've seen in a lot of families where abstinence was encouraged, if not expected - it had nothing to do with valuing one's self and everything to do with shame and oppression, and a strong message that your body belonged first to your father and then to your husband but never to you.

Is he in his 40's? I've known guys that had the pattern baldness starting well before 30.

It's definitely challenging. The other issue is that she's literally never been single at all during that time, in order to make sure her kids were cared for she basically couldn't leave one bad relationship until she had another to go to (her own parents have long since been out of the picture but that's also the type of environment she grew up in). I've managed to at least convince her to see a therapist, hopefully she can at least make sure her daughter doesn't follow in her footsteps.
