I think a lot of people dislike it because it's imperfect. Much of the findings in sociology and psychology, even though they are important, are extremely difficult to replicate and quantify. It's difficult for some sections of science to accept that as a science, rather than an art.

Are you and I reading the same thing? I read what you linked me. That dude said using gender for describing humans was not common. It also says that gender as a grammatical term to categorize words included masculine and feminine.. and male/female gendered writings were found as early as the 14th century. So yes.. dude co-opted a term and changed it's meaning. The word existed long before "social science dipshit" decided it meant what that weird ass corner of college campuses thinks it means.

I already posted examples to other people in the thread. Feel free to sort them out. Generally speaking, boys will more often do X instead of Y, and girls will do Y instead of X.. regardless of outside influence. For boys, that tends to be things like.. playing sports and roughousing. For girls it usually revolves around care taking. Are there deviations? Sure.. but some of that is because our social norm not only allows it, but often celebrates it.. especially for women.
