You don't have to be an alcoholic to do profoundly stupid shit while drunk. In fact, all the career drunks I know rarely do profoundly stupid shit. Just get drunk, mumble to themselves, and go home. Stupid drunk shit is typically done by an amateur who can't handle their booze.
