Saying most murdered men here died in cartel violence isn't victim blaming: it's literally just where the deaths are coming from. Same logic: saying most murdered women died at the hands of a partner isn't blaming women either. But I'm curious, why did you think it was victim blaming with the men I gave in the example, but not the women?

I think it goes more like this: Doctor: You have colon cancer. We need surgery and chemotherapy. Patient: Then why are you funding Alzheimer's research when more people die from cancer? Doctor: Because they're different diseases with different causes and different treatments. Treating one doesn't mean ignoring the other.

Well, yeah. In Mexico, way more men are murdered than women. But it's also a different problem. Most of those men are killed in organized crime or other criminal violence, so the focus should be on stopping cartel recruitment and reducing that violence. Feminicide often happens in domestic or gender-based contexts, so it needs different solutions. I care about both.
