It's really disappointing. I'd love to find a more moderate place again.

That's like saying when someone is on food stamps and they get $100 from a friend to buy their kids Christmas presents that those presents were federally subsidized. If they didn't get food stamps they wouldn't have been able to afford using those $100 for presents as they would need them to buy food after all.

A child does not always have the right to financial support from both parents, for example in the case of a sperm donor to a single mother. A sperm donor, depending on the law, can be defined as not being the legal parent and thus not be responsible for child support. So it's not a question on whether you are the biological father, but the legal father. If through illegal actions someone procured your sperm to get pregnant, should you be defined as the legal father? This debate will be very tric…

The law should not except Nathaniel J. from this responsibility because he is not an innocent victim of Jones's criminal acts. After discussing the matter, he and Jones decided to have sexual relations. They had sexual intercourse approximately five times over a two-week period. I thought the whole point of statutory rape laws was that they are too young to consent and thus can never be a willing participant of intercourse. State ex rel. Hermesmann v. Seyer (1993) 252 Kan. 646 [847 P.2d 1273, 12…

There's the episode Ridicule with 3 women raping a male stripper. There's probably more, but this one sprung to mind.

I don't think she should be fired over this. I've seen numerous cases of this happening to men and I think that's ridiculous too. I think if she talks like that at work, proselytising to colleagues or customers, then yes there is a case if she doesn't fix that behaviour. If she behaves professionally at work I don't think that's a good reason to fire someone. Most people are perfectly capable of separating their personal and work life and I haven't seen any evidence she hasn't.

The major point is: Since when is cultural appropriation a bad thing anyway? I'm guessing since Hitler culturally appropriated the swastika.

I'm not sure what the point of this is supposed to be. If there is no rapist, does that mean no-one is guilty of rape? Or are they not a rapist but should still be punished for rape?

I still don't really see this as a fair comparison. This remains a situation where biological differences are really significant. I think legally a man can't have a say in abortion. If a woman gets sick, injured or dies through a pregnancy she never wanted to carry to full term and only carried through because of the man, is the man responsible for this? And there is a lot that can go wrong through pregnancy, much that isn't necessarily apparent at first. I don't see how you could ever deal with…

When I went to med school 60-70% of my fellow students were women. You could notice a similar flow of women into psychology, biology and life sciences, which were all in the same campus. Men were clearly in the minority there. It just seemed that those fields were more attractive to women, which I never considered to be a problem. I don't think anyone went into those fields because they couldn't get into other fields.

My girlfriend was banned too from r/Feminism and she never got a response why. She only posted twice in there and never here, although she is subscribed to this subreddit. She got the same "muted" message and never got an explanation on why she was banned even after numerous messages. They run a better safe than sorry banning policy and never bother to review as it isn't worth the effort. This was actually literally posted in another Reddit thread by one of their moderators.

Yep. It is a word that's used, but it's meant to be denigrating. I don't know what the discussion was like but by using this word she actually just lost the point she was trying to make.

The narrative is pretty much that this group is only about spreading hate and disinformation and thus it shouldn't be allowed. Of course there is no evidence it will be, but they'll just throw out some extremist things they find online and equate it. Which is exactly what they blame men's rights of doing when discussing feminism.

So on one side feminists say that feminism will also help men and thus need to support it, but on the other side they say that men should not be feminists as it's not their fight. Didn't it used to be that the exact attitude feminism was fighting for that is was wrong to exclude one gender?

Now, recently raped women will be sharing a space with men. If that is what worries them about also treating men, couldn't you just fix that by having separate hours for men and women? That way they won't need to share a space together. I also wonder what they do with women that have been victims of sexual assault by other women, because they will definitely feel unsafe in a woman-only space.

Because this way neither boys nor girls are getting the benefit that you get from playing with legos. So they will both have gained equal benefit and thus equity. I'm sure she'll soon ban parents from reading to their kids if not all parents do it as reading to kids has been linked to success in school.

On a more positive note, women had a greater life expectancy than men, on average reaching 85 years compared to 78.9 for men. At least men die earlier, so we got that going for us. What is that even doing in an article about work and education for women?

I think the argument is that children suffer more from their mother being in jail than their father being in jail. Similar reasoning is used to award mothers custody over fathers in most cases.
/r/MensRights13/09/15 11:32 PM

“We are evaluating the fiscal and custodial impact of including men in the Alternative Custody Program." This reads like the whole program might get canned because they have to include men. Then somehow a similar but "completely different" program just for women pops up that does pass constitutional law.

They'd keep the genetically good men alive and use them as sperm banks and use IVF. I've read an blog post somewhere saying that we should abolish sex for reproduction and switch to IVF as using sex for reproduction is oppressive to women as sex is all about male power.

Not being American, the abortion debate is one that is just not happening here. The way I experienced the American debate it feels more as a religious debate than anything else. It's hard to get any point from the man's prospective in currently as it is really not yet relevant. I think that will just make it more complicated. Once the pro choice side gains enough ground, is when the discussion can really progress to the man's side as well.

The problem here is a pregnancy is not without risks. Women die of child birth or have life long complications when things go wrong. And I think that is the point why we can't force anyone to go through a pregnancy they don't want to complete. It seems very unfair to men, but that is the biological situation we are in.

I thought the glamour article was pretty dumb. But that is the kind of thing that just in those magazines and the women who read them seem to think like that. It has similar lists about what a man should do for a woman to get with her.

Oh yeah, forgot about that American thing. Judges basing their decisions on trying to get re-elected, that doesn't sound wrong at all.

Together with the meet, hook up, have sex comment, this reads like the judge is stuck in the 50s, thinking modern life is to blame for the downfall of society. It's so out of touch and basically ruining his life.

You got listed for quoting someone else?
/r/MensRights30/07/15 12:33 AM

Yeah. But according to feminists that is because of sexism and the patriarchy as it's socially acceptable for men to take off their shirts in public and not for women. It is not because of sexuality, it's to show male privilege.

I don't know how it is in other countries, but I know in the Netherlands women go more into the life sciences: biology, psychology, medicine. I went to med school and it's 60-70% female nowadays. But chemistry, physics and mathematics don't attract as many female students. And I feel that's a bit of a natural development. Clearly those are the fields that interest women more. My girlfriend gets the same reactions when she argues for men's rights too. There are some people who won't listen sadly. I hope your friend isn't like that. I think a place to start might be how certain policies to help women, hurt or disadvantage men. I had a discussion with a feminist friend about the Swedish parental leave situation and how she thought forcing men to take at least 3 months was a step towards equality because now men also had to share in the parental duties. I think the scoring is biased no matter what, not purely because of gender, but purely how the teacher feels about you. This could be gender, but there are enough other reasons for it. I had a teacher where I always just got passing grades. He didn't like me, because I didn't put in effort. He said that I was smart enough to get better grades if I just put in the effort. So for one test I decided to put in a lot of effort. I prepared two weeks, instead of my normal one or two days. I had my mom …

I read an article where women were complaining that there weren't enough potential partners out there as more women than men were getting college degrees. This meant there weren't enough men with degrees deserving to be their partner, thus men should step up and get better educated so they could be eligible to date them. Basically they were saying, women shouldn't have to date down. Men should date down, so no woman has to.

I actually think school administrators saying that 'it's just a stupid grade' is a bit depressing. Why give them out if they don't matter? Just make it pass/fail.

Yes, it's the patriarchy. They're keeping women out. We need more female garbage collectors and sewer workers now!! Wait, no?? Only improve female representation in what we consider the good fields? All the things we don't want to do can keep being done by the men? Got it.

I think parental leave should not be gender specific in any sense. I think it should just be a grouped pool (say 12 months total), which the parents can take out of when they want. So if as a couple you want the man to stay home the most, he should be able to take that when the woman goes back to work. I think none of it should really be gender specific. I think any division of parental leave should be up to the couple and not the state.

As long as she signs a legal document that signs away all his parental obligations and rights then I don't think it's a big problem. He shouldn't end up like that guy who gave a sperm donation to a lesbian couple and then got hounded by the state for alimony.

I wouldn't call it sexism. I hate that anything that affects one sex differently than another is instantly referred to as sexism. I don't think it is. CEO wages aren't a set metric though. CEO's in different fields might make more. So if certain better earnings industries have higher percentage female CEO's, than the median will go up.
