That's irrelevant. One third of the men sentenced to die in Louisiana since 1980 have since been proven innocent. It can be concurrent or consecutive, depending on the sentence. I knew a guy who had multiple prison sentences from various states, and would basically be shipped from one to another when his sentence was up, for (IIRC) some car chase and auto theft that crossed state lines where three states border. He spent years appealing to have the sentences run concurrent, since they were basically from the same crime. I think he got all but one sentence concurrent.

I'm not sure about your state, but there's laws in some places about maxing out first time offenders. Also, they have to find facts to max the sentence out.
