All I can say is that if I were stuck living during the days where women needed a man for financial support and before the existence of birth control, I would have either killed myself as a teenager or joined a convent.

Not even once in my entire life. I've had two instances of strangers groping my ass and then running away before I could see who it was, but a man has literally never verbally cold approached me.

I don't take issue with it, but I think those who do prefer "low support needs" instead of "high functioning."

Surprised you aren't meeting women at cons or cosplay events. Or was that photo more of a one-off and not a regular hobby?

Yes, it actually is sort of a big deal at least when it comes from your close friends and family instead of internet strangers. I think overall societal trends probably reflect this happening less frequently as time goes on, but I absolutely think my own mother, my stepson's biological mother, and many other people who were not suited for parenthood only had kids because of being shamed and/or pressured into having kids. I think this is something that's improving, but yes absolutely a non-neglig…

The issue that comes in with your second point is who is actually providing the childcare? If you're the breadwinner, you likely have to be at work the majority of the time so who is watching the kids when they're either too young to attend school or on school breaks? Most separated parents have what's called a "right of first refusal" in their custody agreement, which means that if the parent is unavailable to watch their child during their custody time they are required to contact the other pa…

Oh man, five to seven times a week is considered heavy use? I'm like 4 times daily unless I'm busy and I can still get there by hand easily. Oral is iffy, the pressure is weird and feeling saliva drip down my ass crack is probably the absolute worst sensation that I can think of. Super interesting to hear other perspectives!

Shit, not even depending on who you ask but more like depending on whether or not she found something bad.

How do they define sleep better? I fall asleep more easily and feel positive emotions when sleeping next to my partner. But he also interrupts my sleep a lot by frequently coming to bed later and turning on all the lights in the process or by waking me up earlier than I need to be up again by turning on every light and also being seemingly incapable of finding his own work clothes.

How sure are you they're over 30? It's probably my personal bias, but men are terrible at gauging my age. When I was 24 I had different men in the same week ask which high school I attend and how many grandchildren I have.

Bad partners, especially the extremes of abusers and cheaters, seem to all have entitlement issues. I'm sure some of them or maybe even loads of them had terrible childhoods. However, every terrible partner I've personally known (whether I was with them or a friend/family member was with them) grew up with married parents who were financially well-off and spoiled the hell out of them. No discipline, never told no, never expected to make any sacrifices. And this has held true for both men and wom…

I can guarantee you are overestimating how often average or below women get approached. I agree there are instances of it being a lack of self awareness, but I disagree on that being the primary contributor. My mom and dad were a terrible match, but he was the only guy to ever approach her until she turned 40 and lost a bunch of weight. I have multiple female friends in their late 20s and early 30s who are still virgins because no men ever approach them. I've personally only ever had luck on OLD…

I agree about what women want vs who they date often not lining up, however I disagree on the reasoning for why that typically occurs. Do some women lack the self awareness to truly understand their desires? Sure, and I'm sure that's true of some men as well. But I think what's happening more often is women just taking what they get. Men do the pursuing and initiating more often, for better or worse. Women of average or below levels of attractiveness really don't have the options people online l…

Is it really that rare? Would explain why literally no one makes jeans that fit me. BMI fluctuates from 18.9-19.1, waist is 23" and hip is 35".

That's fair. But let me see if this tracks for you: do you know any men who regularly work out but still have bad skin, an unflattering haircut, no fashion sense, always smell bad, or anything like that? In my experience, these things matter way more to women than how fit you are (until we get into significant overweight territory of course). And even for women who do care a lot about a man's physique, they probably still on average encounter more overweight or thin but not fit guys. And because…

I suppose my thoughts are more focused on the "women are more attractive" half as opposed to the "most men are unattractive" half. But I think it follows. Women in general usually have a highly specific type and as such it takes more for us to register people as attractive as opposed to just ok enough looking. Combine that with straight women not understanding true attraction to other women and thinking that "having the signifiers of attractiveness is the same as being attractive " when it comes…

We're talking average people here. I literally don't know any men who regularly go to the gym. But I know a lot of men who don't moisturize and only wear sweatpants.

I'm bi and it's my time to shine. I think when straight women (and maybe some other bi women) make this claim, they don't actually mean attractive. They mean presentable or polished. The majority of women I encounter visibly put some sort of effort into their appearance and hygiene. This effort is not necessarily effective at making them look attractive, but it causes the viewer to subconsciously acknowledge that that lady over there took a shower and picked out clothes that match and most likel…

Neither, in my experience. I met lots of really cool men on OLD but we just wanted different things out of a relationship. They'd all still be a catch for someone else, just not me. I was never overwhelmed with choices because I'm not that attractive and I knew my deal breakers. And I enjoyed the company of most of the men I interacted with even if ultimately we weren't compatible.

I agree. Most of the time I'm cool with it because the part of cleaning that stresses me out is figuring out where to start whereas he can break it down step by step but feels stressed out actually doing it. I see a mess and get overwhelmed so the delegation is actually helpful and it feels like a genuine team effort that plays to our strengths. Then there's the rest of the times where he gripes about something stupid and I'm like, "damn if you really feel that way you should probably just clean…

I am a childless woman about to marry a single father. It's not because I love kids or want to be a mother, quite the opposite. I love his kid in particular, but most kids I don't like. I don't want any children of my own and when dating it was much easier to meet single dads who didn't want any more kids than it was to meet any men at all who never wanted kids. And in my experience it's because men tend to really want kids of their own that they're uncomfortable with helping raise other people'…

My male partner has a much higher standard of cleanliness than I do but somehow still less willingness to actually do anything about the mess except complain and delegate tasks. This is a common enough phenomenon among other couples I know that I doubt the trends are that split across gender lines for the entire population.

As a bi woman, I know firsthand how a lot of women are not willing to meaningfully contribute to a conversation with a prospective date. So I really feel for men who are exclusively attracted to women and only meet/match with women who don't bother to be actually present and engaging.

Who watches their parents split up and thinks "goals!"?? I watched my parents' nightmare relationship and decided at an extremely young age to either never have kids or if I changed my mind to wait until marriage for kids and to only marry someone I felt was truly my soulmate and life partner because divorce is terrible.

I allegedly have a 131 but I'm skeptical of the accuracy of IQ testing and since I also have ADHD and dyscalculia there are definitely contexts where I'm going to come across as extra stupid to most people anyway. I never found intelligence to be a hindrance in dating, but it's been a huge issue in making friends and fitting in at work. Especially fitting in with other women, I typically can only get along with other women if they're also neurodivergent or if they're lesbians. No idea why. I do …

I used to 100% agree with this and roll my eyes at everyone who insisted it was just for themselves, but now I'd say it's true only 95% of the time. I've been working from home for 2.5 years and at least twice a week will do my makeup and wear an extravagant outfit even if no one else will see me and I don't have plans later that day just because it makes me feel less depressed. Self objectification or just the illusion of productivity? Who knows, but I definitely feel worse on days where I stay…

Right, I never disagreed that it's human impulse to do so. I just also don't think past behavior is as great a predicator of future behavior as some others on this sub insist. Or that even when it is, it might be predicting something other than what we consciously or unconsciously take from it.

I'd actually cautiously believe that depending on circumstances. I've never cheated so I'm not an expert and I hate to potentially creep into victim blaming territory, but I think one's ability to be unfaithful lies partially within their overall character and partially as a result of how they truly feel about their partner. Idk I'm just big on understanding people and circumstances change and evolve in general. Not big on saying all things are only and always one way.

I've found lots of high-n men are the most insistent on only considering low -n partners, which is I think a lot of women's complaint. I don't even consider myself high-n, based on the numbers I see discussed here I'd be below average but not every single person was in the context of a relationship. A lot of men seem to define high-n as just non-virgin. I'm not accusing you or even a majority of this, but enough people to find it irritating.

Which is to be expected to a degree, but I fail to see how "I tried hooking up once and didn't care for it" is the same as "I cheated on my last partner."

I'd say, for me personally, it was less "I had to suck 100 dicks to learn to love myself" than it was "I've had a few hookups and it's truly not worth it even if I still have low self-esteem I'd rather just feel lonely by being alone." And I'd say hypersexuality as self -harm is harder to understand now than in the past because of insidious narratives masquerading as "sex positive." But I also take issue with the idea of rejecting people based on their families. Like again, set your own dealbrea…

The hypocrisy for one and the idea that past behavior determines future behavior no matter what personal growth a person has undergone for another. There was a point in my life I truly believed I was so hideous and unlovable that I just had to take whatever I could get from men. But I learned pretty quickly that I do not care for casual sex and decided to stop doing it and that was that. But apparently because I ever gave it a try, many men here would seem to argue that I can never be faithful o…

Your body type and fashion niche conflict with each other. I'd expect goth men to be much skinnier and more effeminate for the look to really be cohesive and sexy.

I don't understand where the claim that women prefer muscular men comes from. I sure don't. None of my female friends do. My mom does but she's literally the only woman I know in my life who is into muscular guys and she practically lives at the gym herself. I've known a few formerly closeted lesbians who used to pretend to be into jacked dudes but it was just them pretending to be straight. A lot of posters here claim women see any man under 6' as too short. I'm specifying the men that I'm referring to are closer to 5'4" and under. 5'9" for a man is pretty average but some people will claim it's short, so I wanted to be clear how short we're talking but I guess I phrased it in a way that was still unclear.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/22 03:13 PM

Sorry, I'm not sure which things you're referring to? If you mean did they let themselves go because they weren't getting women anyway, the answer is no. They were unattractive to begin with.

Echoing the common sentiments, the majority are just very physically unattractive. Short as in around average height for women or below, not just under 6'. Extreme untreated skin issues, bad teeth, obese. On the personality side, many of those unattractive men are on the spectrum and/or openly dislike or are highly critical of the women around them. Nothing surprising. I'm more interested in the physically average to attractive guys I know who are unsuccessful because that's more thought provoki…

I don't think it's my feminism, but I think I just naturally like weird looking dudes? So I do tend to date pretty tall, but I have dated short men (either failed first dates or short relationships). I don't really seek out tall, tall finds me and because I became accustomed to it I do prefer it but it was initially a big deal. Not into muscular men. I've turned down personal trainers and athletes because I find them just kind of gross. But I know most womem would be all about it. I prefer extre…

In my experience, the bad hygiene a fair amount of men have is not something you'll notice in casual contact. It's not BO. It's not brushing teeth regularly and not doing a thorough job wiping their ass. They're never gross enough for friends or colleagues to notice, but if they're trying to initiate intimate contact you'll see something is off.

So I think it's actually harder for very attractive men than it is for average men. Severely unattractive will have the hardest time of all though, but I don't think anyone is disputing that. Anecdotally, I've known personal trainers and men who are well known in cosplay circles who are objectively attractive but cannot get a woman to commit to them. I know a lot of overweight men with OK faces in happy relationships who weren't hurting for options when they were single either. What seems to be …

Maybe not a sweeping societal trend, but I 100% personally know a handful of men who could easily get hookups but never get a gf. One often complained about being treated as a "walking dildo." I'm not sure what exactly causes the phenomenon in reverse but I have seen it enough times to know it can happen.

Yep, it's a low self-esteem thing I think. I thought I was hideous so I had to just settle for whatever man took an interest because I couldn't do any better. I hear after the fact that so many actually attractive guys I knew during those same years were into me but didn't think they had a chance. What a joke. I still don't know what I "really" look like but my self-esteem is at least a little bit higher now for several reasons. But it's hard to completely grow out of the mindset of being "the u…

I've only been approached in person twice in my life. The first seemed promising until I found out he was only 17 and I was 19, so shut that down. The second was a marriage proposal from a guy in my Uber pool. I've had random (presumably) men grab my ass then run away a few times if you want to count that but I sure don't. But it's too much of a gamble for me to have ever wanted my own plus pregnancy doesn't appeal to me. I love my stepson! As a stepmom (currently engaged but been caring for the child for years), I think I have a unique contribution to the question that no one else has considered. Once married, I can put my fiancé and his son on my employer's health insurance plan which is more affordable and better coverage than his employer. For unmarried bio parents, they can decide who has better insurance for the child but I can only offer this to my stepson if married to his father. If baby mama dies or loses all parental rig…
