Good. Still very troubling that he was able to do that with so many people milling around and watching. I'm Indian and I don't think this is a gendered phenomenon. https://m.timesofindia.com/city/delhi/man-stabbed-to-death-in-front-of-wife/articleshow/100635180.cms https://www.ndtv.com/delhi-news/video-delhis-badarpur-man-thrashed-stabbed-to-death-as-onlookers-watch-on-3628376 https://www.indiatoday.in/crime/story/man-stabbed-death-tahsildar-office-hyderabad-relatives-blame-wife-family-murder-19…

I had posted this on r/India, where it received a disappointingly low engagement. It was kind of expected, though. Anyway, you're free to post my stuff anywhere you'd like. If you want to.

Do you have a job, friend, girlfriend? Anyone that can help you out with this situation? I do have a few friends, but life is too overwhelming for me due to my mental illness. I don't think I'll ever become "normal". Don't worry about me though; even if I do end up killing myself, I'll simply become another numerical data point in our country's ever-increasing suicide statistics. It's not like I'll find the cure to cancer or anything by stubbornly staying alive in an overpopulated hellhole, you …

I'm sorry. Your situation seems way worse than mine. Living in one of the worst third world countries while facing household poverty is like bearing a generational curse. Breaking free from it is not unheard of, but it's incredibly unlikely. But by the way you write, you seem to be an intellectually capable person with a strong sense of empathy and self-awareness, which automatically puts you well above the vast majority of our countrymen. I believe you have good prospects for success in your li…

I live in India too and can relate to so many things described here. C-PTSD, abusive and neglectful parents, declining mental health. Not to mention the toxic school environment where almost all children are, in one way or another, abused by adults. Enduring childhood abuse is probably a rite of passage here. It's a horrible experience growing up and surviving as an average male in this shithole of a country. It makes me wish I was never born at all. I'm afraid I can't really offer you any moral…

Feminism sells. There's a lot of cash to be made by endorsing feminist ideology. I don't think they genuinely give a shit about helping women.

I guess the government and those in positions of power don't bother to improve the conditions of men simply because there's no profit or incentive to help men. Women have an in-group preference which can be exploited by political leaders and institutions, but men have no such biases and hence need to be kept in a quasi-slavish state so that our labour can be exploited directly. It'd probably be a disaster for the state to allow men's liberation. Can't have men causing rebellions and shit, right?…

Also, legal obligation. Alimony payments, child support, men being resource/financially objectified, etc. Lots of unnecessarily gendered laws and social norms that can lead to some men feeling trapped Those are some key, albeit neglected, factors in analyzing abuse against men. The prevailing biases in our legal systems are exactly why I'd never anticipate an unbiased inquiry into this issue. not to defend their actions, but just to illustrate that a disproportionate ratio of abuse might be more…

Developing countries like India don't have any comprehensive data on such problems, mainly since our national family surveys don't bother asking men about their experiences. And a strange thing I noticed while searching for suicide stats in this country is that there were several articles about female suicide and how much of a concern it is (while ignoring the higher number of male suicide and how it's increasing every year), essentially trying to make suicide into a women's issue.

I was aware of it. That woman makes my blood boil. Apparently she's a highly-regarded feminist and lawyer who has won several awards. Her views on male sexual abuse are disturbing.

I don't know if there's any conclusive research about the topic, but I think a lot of children who are abused grow up to normalize such behaviour and may end up becoming abusers themselves. Male victims of child sexual abuse often grow up untreated and I wouldn't be surprised if many of them end up internalizing the abuse. People ought to be much more protective of male children, for the children themselves and for the good of society as a whole.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates12/05/23 12:51 AM
6

Sexual abuse itself is an extremely underreported crime, so I won't be surprised if that's the case.
/r/MensRights12/05/23 12:24 AM
2

That could only happen if both the parties involved are minors. Our child sexual abuse laws were modified in 2012 to recognize male victims of child sexual abuse too, so if an adult woman rapes ("has sex with") a boy, she'll be the one getting in trouble (hopefully).
/r/MensRights12/05/23 12:12 AM

I don't think so. Most people here don't believe males can be sexually abused.
/r/MensRights12/05/23 12:07 AM
13

I can't say for sure if they are as common in sexual abuse cases as men but I definitely believe that female perpetrators are actively being erased out of statistics regarding sexual abuse of minors. It's hard to believe that almost all perpetrators of male child sexual abuse are male themselves, as indicated by the data. I'm guessing boys just don't register abuse from women as gravely as they do from men due to their social upbringing, and hence won't report such cases.
/r/MensRights11/05/23 09:05 PM

It wasn't the best example, but wars do indeed affect everyone, including women. And people often show greater concern and empathy for female civilians during wartime than for male conscripts. Anyway, my point is that we're probably not in a position to demand empathy for men, given the circumstances. Some developed countries might recognize some forms of discrimination against males but for the rest of the world, it's nigh impossible. So, wouldn't it be better to strive for practicality?

I've seen some suggest that we re-frame the issues, for example, talking about the impacts that fatherless-ness has on the children instead of discussing it as a "men's rights" topic. It's slow progress, but I guess it's still progress. I've been thinking about something similar to this. We can express men's issues as problems that adversely affect women and girls, which could potentially garner more support towards our cause. Consider this quote: Women have always been the primary victims of wa…

That's true but there's still quite a difference in tone when it comes from a sexist woman. It's depressing when you encounter some of those threads where they're basically spewing hateful rhetoric in the same vein as mgtow/redpill but targeted against men, and people upvoting and agreeing with them.

I've observed that subreddits (not all) with majority female users often have upvoted comments that are sexist towards males, some of which can be considered misandristic. Usually, there'd be some weird and disgusting top-level comments when the topic pertains to a male (similar to AITA threads), with loads of poor advice. This tendency is not limited to female-centric/feminist subreddits like TwoX, but also occurs in regular subs with a higher proportion of female members. Am I just being paran…

Yes, misandrists tend to disguise themselves as "progressive" by stating they only loathe a certain group of men (cis white men, upper caste men, conservative men, etc) but given sufficient time you'll come to know they just hate men.

India is pretty fucking backwards. There's nothing wrong with admitting the reality of this terrible country. I just don't like when they promulgate a one-dimensional, biased perspective on some issues with this country. I've heard about that too and vaguely remember it being a thing in only one part of India, if I'm not wrong. And I sure as hell don't want to read up on that crap for the sake of my mental health. It's hard to understand what they're even trying to achieve by putting such forced nonsense in modern entertainment. The original "Alien" is one of my all-time favourite movies with a strong female lead and it didn't require any female pandering to be successful.

Just the usual conservative environment, dialed up to 11. I'm Indian too and the gender segregation thing sadly happens everywhere. Boys and girls were divided into separate rows in school classrooms and we were punished for even sitting with a girl. And interestingly, this segregation was predominantly enforced by the female teachers. This has fucked with our minds so much that even in college we instinctively separate ourselves by gender. We are deliberately drilled into viewing the other gend…

Aren't men and women stronger together when they work together to accomplish things? This seems natural to us but strangely enough I've seen feminists mocking the concept of men and women working together numerous times. They'd say stuff about women not needing men, men being redundant, etc. but somehow still end up taking male labour for granted.

In the hypothetical future where males are kept in cages and only let out for slave labour, radfems would still find a way and perform the necessary mental gymnastics to deem it a patriarchy.

Trying to raise awareness outside of men's rights spaces will just get me ridiculed because male advocacy is seen as a joke at best and a taboo at worst. Maybe it's just my depression speaking but I've lost all hope for an egalitarian future; I just can't see how the world will ever gather the empathy needed to address the issues of the "ugly" sex. I guess embracing the unfairness of life is the only practical solution.

There's no denying that the gender empathy gap is the biggest culprit when it comes to ignoring the troubles of half the population, but I wonder if another underlying reason men's issues never get addressed could be that male exploitation and subjugation is highly profitable. We already know about male-only conscription being a prominent case of this, but maybe this idea could be extended to other areas of sex-based discrimination against males, not necessarily related to the law. Lots of feminists only seem to acknowledge men's problems "as a side effect of patriarchy", which is basically an indirect way of saying "men's problems are their own fault, they should focus on helping women to eliminate patriarchy, and then, magically their problems will disappear". The way they talk about men's issues and anti-male discrimination always has that distinct air of condescension around it that pisses me right off. Sexism against males has sadly become a thing of virtue in our current political climate. For this reason, I think one of the most important steps to being a men's rights activist or male advocate is to understand that society, by and large, doesn't give half a fuck about the average male's well-being, however gloomy this may sound. This reality is reflected almost everywhere: In the news media, in policy making, in schools and academia, in hiring practices, during wartime, in pop culture, and e…

Men tend to be visual when it comes to arousal, women are more about anticipation. So of course men are going to respond to a vag pic while women don't as readily respond to a dick pic. Lower class men are treated more like pests due to casteism You hit the mark with this. Men from lower socioeconomic strata are especially affected by the gender empathy gap; they've to deal with unique modes of institutional discrimination and oppression, which is something that 'progressives' are oblivious to. The blatant human rights violations of poor, low-caste men by the criminal justice system of India is one such example.

our genitals aren't the targets of Fundamentalist Christian lunatics I need some clarification. Isn't MGM a bigger problem in the West than FGM? Moreover, male circumcision (at least in the US) has prejudicial origins. John Kellogg wanted the surgery to be performed without anesthesia so that it'd hurt and the soreness would last for a long time. The procedure was originally intended to stop males from masturbating, tame their "base" sexual desires and reduce their sexual pleasure. Apparently he…

I live there too and I definitely agree that we need a fix from the 'root' up for gender issues (as well as for caste and communal issues, but that's a separate topic). But I'm not convinced that radical feminism is the answer to that. I won't claim I know more about the different branches of feminism than you do since I've never been on their academic side, but from my exposure and limited knowledge alone I can say it's rather ideological and perhaps too ignorant of the male experience. As someone living in India, it's quite amazing how much men don't care about their rights and privileges here. They sort of just accept the discrimination and move on with their lives. No indignation or anything. I think a significant reason for this is the moral panic surrounding us, combined with a lack of awareness and solidarity among men. Political parties and the media do a decent job instilling an inequitable approach towards gender affairs in the public.

It may just be a lack of personal experience that is also buffeted by actual mysogynists constantly keeping them defensive. Or maybe the truth is much simpler than that. Maybe they're just sexists (who've been radicalized or influenced by pop culture feminism) and we should stop making excuses for their anti-male bigotry. The problem is with themselves, not some illusory misogynist stopping them from empathizing with half the fucking population.

I understand they're trying to make a mockery of men and Men's Day but it just falls flat because India, much like the rest of the world, doesn't acknowledge Men's Day at all. Last year, Amazon India was celebrating "Women's Entrepreneurship Day" on 19th November, for instance.

Also there were several villages on the İndia's west that are proactively purging their female populations - spartan style - therefore having immediate and impactful gender/sex ratio crisis. That's indeed a problem (although a bit overblown) but we need to be aware that, according to recent data, the current overall sex ratio in India is 1020 females to 1000 males. I'd wager the gender empathy gap can contort almost any general issue into something which affects men more. Most forms of transphobia and transphobic violence towards transwomen can be explained, at least in part, by their roots in a fundamental indifference towards male suffering, since transwomen are usually viewed as 'men in disguise' or 'mentally ill men'. People just aren't very receptive to the idea of men stepping out of the "Man Box".

Makes much more sense when you realize the theories and narratives they're constantly pushing revolve around unequivocally blaming men for every wrong in the world and consequently exonerating women of their misdeeds ("patriarchy"). Gods aren't real either We cannot prove that. I'd say skepticism around these matters should be the rational stance.

Like how male students in many Asian or other non-Western countries get thrashed in the name of "discipline"? And it's often for behaviour people would normally excuse or let go with an admonition when it comes to female students. I owe part of my mental health issues to the authoritarian nature of my school. Thank you, sadistic dickheads who found a way to punish me even though I tried my hardest to act "feminine", to remain quiet and still while passively receiving information. This type of in…

The term used solely in the context of male mental health—similar to its original use in the mythopoetic men's movement—may have its merits, but seeing how it's typically being used by "progressives" today leaves much to be desired. It has just become another word to attack men.

"Men that think there's misandry tend to have a warped sense of entitlement towards women. According to these men, women are supposed to remain deferent. Move out of the way if a man wants to walk through, make yourself smaller if a man sitting next to you wants your arm rest, apologise for speaking up. Be flattered and respond positively to unwanted sexual advances. And that is internalised misogyny that most men aren't even aware of." Part of an answer by a feminist on Quora. Scary, to say the…

Yeah, I realised I was wrong after going through some of your comments. I assumed you weren't being completely sincere since that's the experience I've had with most self-declared feminists, radical or otherwise, who come to MRA spaces to argue their points of view.

Well, what else can we expect? Gender feminists thrive on the cultural hypoagency of women.

I've seen some feminists claiming that FDS is run by incels with the purpose of making women look bad, which is again pinning the blame on men. I expect a few trolls to be in there but the fact doesn't change that the community is largely operated by and catered to women.

Do you mean the TERF subreddits like gendercritical? Quite sure the only reason those subs get banned is the transphobia, not misandry.

The issue is many of them cannot even conceptualize that men could have problems too. https://np.reddit.com/r/FragileMaleRedditor/comments/nrwjuc/any_time_an_annoying_male_throws_a_fit_for_online/

Replace "women" with "mainstream feminists" and it'd be apt.

I don't really have anyone I could genuinely discuss my issues with, apart from an online friend who can more or less empathize with my condition. Not like talking would do much for me, anyway. I've always been a bit neurotic and asocial so I couldn't make many friends, and my abusive, narcissistic mother made it a lot worse for me throughout the years. I'm happy you could get out of that mess.

No. It'd only backfire on me. I live in a country where things like guns or sodium nitrite aren't accessible so I'd have to make do with what I have.

There's a good chance I'll end up hanging myself before August of this year. I just hope there's no afterlife or reincarnation.

Anyone else a bit paranoid that this subreddit may get vilified as a far-right hate group as it gains more traction? Do we have anything more concrete beyond Reddit?
