So they don't starve to death and aren't forced to turn to crime to feed themselves? Why should the government care about why your employer fired you?

Or there are laws that require minors not be left unattended, and 14 yearolds are as good as mentally handicapped on a whole? Some people I don't doubt could take care of themselves for a good few hours, but the vast majority of 14 yearolds you would hire a babysitter for if money wasn't an issue to be thought of.

In a lot of places it is illegal or potentially illegal to leave a child under the age of 16 alone overnight. Usually the wording used in law is along the lines of 'unattended in a manner likely to cause or lead to injury' for children over 12, but you would want to be on the safe side.

People don't care enough to inf out more than "he was accused of rape". They really, really don't. Adults are just as vicious as middleschoolers when it comes to rumors, but in the adult world it isn't just kids at your school saying that "susan fucked a dog", it's entire news corporations. And it stays on the internet forever.
