This affected my family. It has ramifications for multiple generations, too. It’s not just the four souls involved (child, mother, father, duped-dad).

In my family it was 25%.

Sometimes divorce is expensive because it’s worth it.

If an employer could hire women and pay them less than men, why would they ever hire men? It seems like finding a way to cut one of your biggest expenses (payroll) would be in every business owner’s best interest.

It worked for me. I’m sure the real dad wasn’t so happy though.

I loved the opening when Conan was a youth. I’ve probably seen it ten times but never watched the rest of the movie.

Good Lord, I thought my story was bad. Not even close to what you just described. What makes me most sad about your story is how the ex is training your daughter to take advantage of the system and thus her own father. That’s child abuse and it perpetuates the abuse. Her kids will be taught the very same strategies. That cycle needs to stop.

FL has a Duped Dads Law that works.

Depends on the state. First hand experience.

I’ve heard that Canadian divorce decrees can award the father child support THROUGH college. And force him to pay tuition, too. At least in the US child support is cut off at 18 and tuition isn’t forced on the father yet. At least it wasn’t for me…

Some states have Duped Dads Laws and will use DNA results to terminate child support and disestablish paternity. I know of one in particular.

Even states with duped dads laws only prevent future payments. I wasn’t able to get reimbursed for what I had already spent whilst the case wound it’s way through court.

Do it early, not 8 years later and after a year of child support. The fallout is ugly.

This is my favorite argument because it’s the most logical.

Some states have “duped dads” laws. I was fortunate enough to divorce in a state where the law allowed me to disestablish paternity and terminate child support. It felt like losing a child. And my ex simply took the child’s real father to court and squeezed child support out of him. The child never knew the real father. Very painful all around.

Assume every conversation you have with her, every text message, and every email will become a court record. Do not, no matter how hard it is, let your anger get the best of you. Always take the high road, even when she tries to use the kids as a weapon against you. Never tell them anything negative about her. It pays dividends in the short and long term. And it will irritate the crap out of her. Edit: and protect your assets and credit cards tonight.

If there’s a hole there’s something going in it. She said he’s still around after seven years so I’m betting he just wants her to shut her trap but he has to put up with it so she will continue to put out.

This has to be BS. I guarantee FL has an effective Duped Dad’s law. Signing the birth certificate doesn’t mean anything. My name was taken off. I didn’t get any reimbursement or credit for the child support I paid, but I didn’t pay a penny more after the judge signed the order.

They’re tough decisions. What sold me on it was the thought of being tied to the parenting plan with the ex for another ten year sentence. And since she had such contempt for following rules I could see how equitable that would be. Now, how do the other kids react to this? You know she will poison them. “He is a terrible father. He doesn’t want any of you. Look how he treated your little sibling.”

No. What I meant was I thought I had one more kid than I really do. After divorce I was able to stop the child support but it meant the end of a relationship. And the poor kid lost his identity. And his mother just ran to the real dad and got payments from him.

DNA tests work and some states have “duped dads” laws. Some of us have benefitted from those laws. They help financially but the toll is kind of high. It is like losing a child. It really sucks.
