While I did not mention anything about equivalency, whatever people "believe" should be irrelevant. What matters is right and wrong, which shouldn't be determined by popular opinion. Individuals who have children and are financially capable of providing for the child, especially if the child is disadvantaged financially, should damned well be paying child support, if nothing else.

Well I thought I would ADD government opinion to the conversation, seeing as they would be the ones to enforce that my dad pay. But whatevs.

the government thinks it's totally fine that my dad never paid my mom a penny of child support because he's "legally insane", let alone can and has held down jobs and is doing quite well for himself financially.
