How do people get scammed most commonly? Do you have any advice on what to look out for to avoid a scam? If I go solo, should I just be keeping my head on a swivel at all times, in case people are thinking about robbing me? Is something like pepper spray a silly thing to have over there?

Yup. 100% this. Definitely made that mistake myself last year. "I like it when you tell me things..." So then you tell her personal things, and then she loses attraction.
