Actually they have far less responsibilities or consequences than ever. The only new thing is "get a job". What's been removed is "raise 12 children to adulthood without a microwave oven, and keep your man happy". Responsibilities that fulfill us cause much less unhappiness and much more happiness than boring chores.

You aren't different, Freud was wrong about many things. He is basically grandfather of psychology, but in his time psychology was more of a pseudo-science than science. His contributions to psychology are great, but his conclusions and opinions about psyche were mostly wrong.

Even though symptoms of gender dysphoria aren't physical like with anorexia, mental struggles of people suffering from it must be big when they are willing to undergo gender reassignment. The thing is though, eating disorders can be cured on a psychological level. There isn't such a cure for Gender dysphoria. Reassigning gender doesn't fix the brain problem a person has, but it allows them to live a normal and fulfilling life, which is good enough. If we didn't have a cure for anorexia, anything that would allow anorexic people to live as normal life as possible would be good enough. On the other hand, I visited Netherlands last week (I'm from eastern Europe), and only a small percentage of girls (college age) were "not chubby". As if having extra 5-10kg was normal for them. Guys were not overweight as far as I saw.
