Why not take up a hobby that will automatically make you interact with people? For example, I do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a martial art consisting of choke holds and arm locks. Think wrestling, but with submission holds. With BJJ, you're forced to interact with people, you learn self defense, you stay in shape, and you make friends over time. Now I'm not saying you specifically have to do jiu jitsu, but that's just an example. It could be yoga, Muay Thai, swimming, art classes, anything. I'm just re…

I never said that you can't ask. You're misinterpreting what I'm saying. All I meant originally is that asking about a person's career may not always be the best way to understand him or her. I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to discuss here, you're taking a simple statement I said and trying to make it overly extreme, which it's not, so I'll give up trying to convey my opinion now.

Of course you can ask, but maybe it's not always the most interesting subject of interest to talk about, and other times it can be. And that's why I said "sometimes". Maybe he's a doctor, but he's really passionate about piano as a hobby and would love it if you asked him about that. I will partially disagree and say that sometimes asking a doctor (or anyone in general) about their work can be annoying. Maybe the guy you're asking doesn't want to talk about his work or school. It's a common occurence for people to not be passionate about their career. I find this can relate especially to girls--school is the last subject a girl would want to talk about since it can be a monotonous subject, especially in a non-sober environment.
