I read the article, which lead me through to the forum. What the fuck am I reading? The posts on that forum are evidently made by the bottom 2% of the societal ladder. These are heartless, selfish, cruel people who are having their behavior reinforced by other selfish people. Disgusting and saddening.

By "holding them", I think the OP means her other boyfriends.

This is amazingly succinct and well written.

Despite the fact that there is misandry, militant feminism, and misinformation about supposed "women's rights" issues, men and women should be valued equally. I don't think any rational man would dispute that men and women are equal in value. In response to a completely unrelated question, men and women do (and should) have different roles in society. This is not to say that "women should stay in the kitchen" or any nonsense like that, it's just to acknowledge that men and women have physiologic…

Equal value, different role. To continue the discussion since MorTomeh seems to have briefly lost his mind.

The short story is that my dad was arrested for possession (cocaine, weed), but skated because it was a first offense and he was able to offer up a big player. My mom was told by a police officer that if she didn't get out of the marriage, her kids could be taken away from her even if she was clean. She found out later that the officer was wrong about that, but that's beside the point.

It's more your interactions with the person you're dating while you're around the kids that's a problem. In my experience (raised by a single mother who dated a few men seriously in my childhood, see my comment in this thread), this is where moms go terribly wrong. I love my mother and I have a great relationship with her now, but I can tell you from first hand experience that direct interactions between your child and the men you're dating can be damaging to your children unless the men you're …

Background: My parents divorced when I was 5 and my little brother was 3. My mother had custody of my brother and I, and my father was allowed visitation every other weekend from Friday at 3pm - Sunday at 5pm. At this point in my life, I love both of my parents and have a huge appreciation for the sacrifices they made for me. My parents are best friends now and probably always will be, but until I left for college things were shaky. My mom dated 5 - 10 different guys seriously (by "seriously" I …

is it selfish to want the person you're stuck with to live up to the person you married? It's not selfish to hope for that. My grandfather (a person I greatly respect) told me before I got engaged to my now ex-wife that when you get married, you're not just marrying the woman in front of you on your wedding day, you're marrying every woman she will ever be. People change, and it is selfish (not to mention unrealistic and stupid) to assume that people will always change for the better. A lot of t…

men cheat because they're programmed to multiply as often as possible. ALL men are programmed to multiply as often as possible. NOT ALL men cheat. You can't say our programming causes us to cheat. It may help, but it's not a cause. The causes are selfishness and lack of personal boundaries. The type of people who cheat all share those two traits in common. It's impossible to unselfishly cheat on your husband, and it's impossible to cheat on your husband if you have strict personal boundaries (i.…

If what motivated her cheating was his losing sight and direction, People cheat because they're selfish and lack personal boundaries, not because "my husband is losing sight and direction". In fact, "losing sight and direction" is emotional mumbo jumbo in itself. If you want to allow judgment to rule over emotion, here's one way you can do that... The women who cheat on their husbands are never (or very rarely) in the same category as women who have the potential to make us better.

I recognize what cheating is: one partner is not getting their needs met inside of the marriage and seeks to get those needs met outside of the marriage. This is not what cheating is, this is an excuse for cheating. Cheating is caused by two things: selfishness and lack of personal boundaries.

My wife cheated on me, and when I found out she tried to justify herself to our friends and family. She told my good friends that I would "hold her down" and that she was "scared of me". She never told anyone I hit her or caused any physical damage, but the implication was enough to turn a lot of my friends against me in the aftermath of our divorce. I was nothing but gentle with my ex-wife the entire time we were married. I never physically held her against her will, and I never did anything th…
