They both dealt with the realities of wartime life, rationing, making do with whatever they could get their hands on, learning to recycle anything necessary to the war effort. I agree with this assessment mostly. But it's generally Northern European men including Scandinavians who fit this stereotype. Not sure about men's rights but in terms of fathers rights Germany has to be way up there. They are deeply mired in a 1950's mindset and women are literally guaranteed custody.
