Probably tens of thousands and could be north of a hundred for someone like Heinein around the clock for so long... Truth be told, I can't even guess at the number. I have no idea her rate. But "thousands" strikes me as conservative. Edit: /u/SigmundFloyd76 suggests $500-800K which Seems reasonable

Error in the first sentence. Credibility gone, stopped reading. In a world so full of noise you must give the reader a reason to listen to YOU. Everyone has a channel and platform. Why should I read a thousand YOUR words when I have so many of my own? Well, if you're smarter than me and you know more I will listen. But I know how to proof read, so you've shown me you aren't. I suppose I might listen if I agree with what you have to say already, and I'm the sort of person who likes reading materi…

Yeah but that doesn't mean it isn't still a powerful idea. Look at how its reshaped society, the very way we talk...

My two cents: it only seems ridiculous because it's new. Many new things seem ridiculous, including feminism once upon a time. Ridiculous ideas + time can be extremely potent.

Such and easy one, no? Feel like you're part of the problem /u/brzcory is describing. It's not just women telling me to "be a man" (read: give more than you get in this exchange for no reason).

I was just summarizing the post, the only of my actual opinions that appear in here are the choice to use the word "idiot", which is actually regrettable given that I don't know you. The whole thing just seems so... Can't we do no better than this?

If you find this I'll save you some time with an accurate TLDR A. Guy's credibility as a nice dude is established, he tells a blatantly sexist joke in mixed company B. He's smacked by an idiot, who is then smacked by another idiot, both of whom seem to think smacking can fix a problem. Fin.

I can't help but notice that you've asked /r/mensrights for help as well, the fact that you would do that means you're at the very least within a self-selected group of people familiar with these ideas and comfortable posting here. Not an accusation, but I suspect this too could be a source of friction. I think your conclusion is correct, that your efforts made the problem worse. Tall fences make for good neighbours. My overarching point is that this post suggests that it would be so hard to find a quote in the manosphere clearly indicating misogyny that Time had to fabricate one. This idea is laughably false on its face to anyone who has spent fifteen minutes in these communities, even someone with a very sympathetic eye knows this is true. You show me an un-singed home and say "look, no fire here!" while the city around you burns, you've completely missed my point.

lol because it would be SO hard to find a noxious quote in the blogosphere they had to concoct one. This dude didn't just scrub his history after he was featured in TIME MAGAZINE FOR BEING A MISOGYNIST. Sometimes I just don't know what planet you guys are on, seriously.

After sleeping on it, I've decided you're right. It's a bad name. The program in concept is still fine, helping teach people to navigate the murky waters of sexual politics, but... Why pick a name that's so hostile? Why pick a name that has even the chance to offend, what is gained? It would make a lot more sense to call your campaign "What Is Consent?" and make it a straight educational narrative... #whatisconsent. It even hashtags better than Teach Boys not to Rape. You might not necessarily h…

Wouldn't want anyone getting the wrong idea from rigorous, peer-reviewed historical data. Hey, let's cherry pick stats from the last year because they say what we like! That's how science works right? Super short timescales?

It could have increased over time, rates could be higher in the past 12 months. And if men are under-reporting these crimes, how is that evidence of a feminist agenda? You realize hat no one listens to feminists right? We get laughed out of as many meetings as you all, there's no conspiracy there. Just people trying to improve the world as best they can, just like you.

Just being honest about my experience on the other side of the fence man. I've been clear that I was banned by SRS and it's friends. I can't apologize for every feminist, but I'm more sympathetic to its worldview.

Man, if you sincerely don't think that a rape resulting in a pregnancy is any worse an outcome than the alternative I don't even know what to say to you. Its statements like that that make women think "you have absolutely no idea what it's like to be me, and you haven't really thought hard about it." This is where MRM heads in the wrong direction, trying to make everything neat and even and equal and clean. Some outcomes are just plain worse, in terms of human flourishing, and any woman who has …

Thanks for the support man. We're at a strange moment in history, with respect to this conversation around gender. The people in charge of the conversation are the baby boomers in positions of power; the mods of this sub or the radical feminist with a faculty position. They hate each other, and have such deeply-entrenched anger that they can't even see straight. Sure, maybe they earned their scars: maybe that woman was abused by her priest, maybe that man is blogging from a jail cell because a f…

I can see the "Teach Women not to Falsely Report Rape" one having some traction, because there would be real, interesting data to share in such a movement, and educational opportunities about how false rape claims do injury to real rape survivors. The question shouldn't be "whom do I offend," but "how do I best teach?" If I were to teach a class called "How not to Falsely Report Rape," do you think all men would need this training? Is the problem of false rape reporting among men pernicious? No;…

That may be, but that isn't how I feel or how my friends feel, parties in the movement. I can see how the actions of feminists so far scan as a trend towards less and less responsibility and agency, but that's because it has been progress to a point. A point of equality. At some point, when enough awareness of feminist complaints exists and the culture has made adjustments, the work of a feminist will be complete. You'll tell me that feminists won't give up (not to put words in your mouth), that…

I would place Taranto on the lunatic fringe headed the other direction, and let those kids push each other down in the sandbox. People like you and I, on the front lines organizing real action and trying to sway public opinion, are far more important in my view. And here we are, already finding areas of agreement. The more I learn, the more I see Men's and Women's Rights movements as being really congruous... In the end, they both call people doing harm the enemy, they both agree that people sho…

The point I make is not to say that the threat of pregnancy is salient to the problem of rape (though it is, and for you to say otherwise ignores an incredibly important dimension of the discussion), but that rape is a crime specifically related to sexuality, so sexuality is relevant in a way it simply isn't with murder or theft. It isn't a deflection, but a recognition of the specific crime we're dealing with. People in these threads keep saying this along the lines of "imagine it wasn't rape, …

I agree, and I don't think I'd say "lesser" so much as "different". But I see what you mean. And in a lot of ways, this is much closer to a feminist ideal of equality. Like, REAL equality, where a man can be a victim or a perp and the same is true of a woman. Where a woman can take comfort from a man in a group for rape survivors. Is this not the stated goal of feminism? Equality of opportunity for the genders? Sorry these posts are coming back slow, its making me wait because I'm getting the sh…

Two things (three if you count the fact that I think all physics teachers should have as much social esteem as doctors): I agree with what you're saying here, but is the problem the branding and presentation? My understanding is that "teach not to rape" campaigns largely do focus on definitions of rape (what it is, how it can happen, noticing the signs... basic education). This would mean that "teach boys not to rape" is more of a bad catch phrase than a campaign, and I could absolutely be convi…

Hmmmmmm... fascinating. I'll need more time to read through this and think about it before I can craft the kind of reply this deserves. Here's what my gut says: A lot of what you're saying is both dead-on and not something I hear out there often. As a matter of fact, I could say that about every reply in this thread. MRA is not the cartoon its made out to be at all. Having a forced-to-penetrate statistics should happen regardless of the political dimensions of the discussion. Science is about di…

When you change the definition of rape to mean that only men can rape, then have the police treat people like only men can rape and stack the entire legal system against men especially in anything regardng crimes of a sexual nature is it really that surprising that the statistics say men are the majority of rapists? The problem is that if the fact of the matter were that men were doing most of the raping, the statistics would also read this way. Couldn't it be that the science is correct, the de…

You aren't the person that these ad campaigns are designed to address. They are here to help people who don't even HEAR the words "rape" or "consent" anywhere in their lives. People who end up in jail because they didn't even know what they were doing was rape. It would be more like a public awareness campaign focusing on anger management that was designed to reduce murder. To respond to your "so what?", here's so what: those physiological differences are relevant to the crime. A male is incapab…

This ignores the physiological dimensions of sexual violence, biological differences from one gender to the next that don't obtain from one race to the next. For instance, I have much more physiologically in common with a man of a different race than a woman of the same. The fact that rape is a crime related to sexual reproduction makes it a much different crime from, say, theft. The comparison between the two is misleading. Complications arise with things like sexual arousal, consent, etc. And …

Hmmmmmmm. I've been thinking a lot about these two short sentences, so thank you for opening my mind up to this way of thinking about things. My feeling is that the substance of what you're saying is bang-on, but the timing is off. If we look at both problems on all fours, the order of magnitude difference between sexual violence by men against women vs. sexual violence against women by men means the comparison between the two is misleading at best. The disparity between the genders with respect…

I think the confusion here is saying "men-evil, women-good". It isn't about "men-evil, women-good" so much as "men-perpetrators, women-victims" with respect to rape. Which, overwhelmingly, is in fact the case.

I'm not saying physicality isn't necessary, just that it makes sense to recruit for more than just that. Partner teams of men and women seems like the best idea to me, to make up for any physical shortfalls among female officers, but also have a decision maker on site who doesn't have a physical option to jump to immediately. My sincere belief is that the best interactions between police and the public will happen with such a model. Also, it's a good idea to have female officers around so other …

I think there's something to this, but I think its a bit misleading. If an unattractive guy approaches a girl and, with confidence, says something like "I just noticed you sitting here and I was wondering if I could get to know you a little better," there's no hope of creep shaming that person. If you heard a guy approach a girl that way, and then heard her call him a "creep," you would laugh. I think the creep smear exists for when guys are... creepy. Article lost me with the hand-wringing hysterics about the "future of the millenials".
