I’ve lurked here occasionally out of curiosity, have upvoted a few comments I thought were very good, but never commented (until this one here). Seemed kind of obvious that this space is for women.

I would think a woman would want her husband/SO to have the same level of confidence she has. Maybe even request he do it before he brings it up. That would be the ideal situation. Because, even when he has no reason for suspicion, the gesture would be appreciated and show she cares about his feelings and relationship to the child. Another redditor here said she'd see his requesting the test as a breach of trust and end the relationship. This amounts to an ultimatum. "Put your name down on the c…

But there seems to be this thought that men know nothing and have no say and they do know How would a man know if a woman has been with another man near the time she got pregnant unless she's volunteering that info? Edit: and you just illustrated and reinforced my point very nicely. It needs to be something that is automatic at hospitals just like identifying the child's blood type is.

But if he has no reason to suspect someone else might be the father and she tells him he is then it absolutely is paternity fraud. For example, they are married and there is no known history of infidelity. If she has any reason to suspect it may not be him and she leads him to believe it is him, it's paternity fraud. And if he asks for a test, as he is allowed to, it's basically an accusation of cheating. So he is gambling with is relationship on the off chance the child may not be his. He's dam…

But what guy wants to hurt his relationship with his wife by asking for the test before putting his name on the certificate. Most women view it as an accusation of cheating, so it takes the same emotional tole on the relationship, at a time when she is understandably in an emotional blender. If they were mandatory before the name goes down then a guy still has the option of taking responsibility for a child that’s not his if he wants.

Many crimes punishments don’t include jail time. There are other options.

I know you specifically asked for women’s perspective in the post, but here’s my hot take anyway. There’s a slew of tests that are done right after birth. I think a compulsory paternity testing should be one of them. Whoever’s name is going down as the father. Many men don’t ask for it because they know it will hurt the relationship. She be hurt that he doesn’t trust he so he’s in a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation. And even he doesn’t ask because he has no doubts, some of those gu…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
