Just as for all the good, decent, and helpful women there are in the world, there are also those out there that look at you as nothing but your wallet and your social status. The two genders might manifest human nature differently, but that nature itself is pretty immutable. This is why civilization exists: to allow us to overcome our natures when bad, or channel them in a positive direction when good.

This is downright tragic. If she's your friend, now is the time to show it in spades. You and your husband and anyone else who can possibly influence her should haul her out somewhere and do whatever it takes to convince her to get out of a relationship that won't let her be a mother, go somewhere else for a new career, and find a potential mate for that. If she's open to Asian guys or expats, teaching English abroad to children might be a great fit!

I do think there is going to always be something of a distinct empathy gap that romantically unsuccessful men who struggle to any attention whatsoever feel toward women who are complaining about too much unwanted attention.
