You can't trust anyone to be perfect, but you can trust that they'll be human (or, whatever, "themselves" - even though that changes). That means even if your expectations are reasonable they will inevitably disappoint you. It's what you do when that happens that matters and knowing it will happen (at least in theory, even if you don't fully believe it) helps take some of the sting and personalization out of it.
