General rule: If drunk, venue volume doesn’t matter. You can meet people. The drunker the better. If sober, you must be in a place where you can clearly hear the other person speak and they can hear you. I do find that woman can sometimes go overboard in the opposite direction. Like they feel threatened over a simple conversation opener. Which is why I felt this is a needed post. One thing boomers are right about is that younger generations struggle to communicate like they did, to the point we even need a post on it. Having said that, 99% of the time you are right- people will be polite and its not a big deal.

Just walk up and say hello. Ask them questions about campus/the school you go to. Maybe see if they have recommendations on places to go, things to see. And all the while, just be open and give signs you are interested (eye contact, smile, light arm touch). As someone who has had very little success with women in recent years, and mostly just lurks this sub, Hinge has been the one app I have had some success with. Best matches, good conversations, people willing to meet up etc. I dropped all of them for now, kind of working on my health (both physical and mental), but when I go back it’ll be with Hinge.

In fact that scenario happened to me. Parents had a friend. That friend had a daughter my age who happened to be in town. Super cute, really successful career etc. We started texting and I was gonna meet her. She asked if I had IG or TikTok/Snap. Or Facebook. I said no, I got off those a while back. Just reddit, linkedin, and a twitter acct for browsing once in a blue moon. Instant ghost.

As another commenter said: Alcohol. Its hard for many to enjoy these settings sober. I absolutely hate the club/loud bar scene. I don’t drink. When I used to drink it was tolerable. My biggest piece of advice is to embrace doing the things you do enjoy. Those are the places to meet women. Pick some hobbies that you know you will enjoy that have some women there. Then stick to them. I always felt going to clubs/bars was a requirement to being a young guy meeting women. It doesn’t have to be.
