One thing to realize is this is not a you problem. You feel that way because she has probably insinuated it is somehow your fault. Nah. She is a broken woman. Maybe she was good at hiding it, but in hindsight you will really start to put the pieces together. Don’t fall for the idea that all women are like this either. Just because your wife is a broken woman does not equate all women the same. Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off and live for you. “Divorce panic” by dad starting over and “No more…

Just wait. Do things the right way. Finish the divorce, do your best to heal, and then move on to date. You will be much happier with the results. It sucks. It all sucks. This is not a club most of us expected. But I am much more satisfied in my current relationship than I could ever be in my marriage. I’m still working on healing and improving- that’s a lifelong battle. I still have triggers that I have to deal with, but it is so much easier with a partner who is willing to work with me. Your d…

Yes. Counseling is the first option. Sounds like individually and as a couple. Life ebbs and flows, but if my partner did not want to act as a partner that would be hard to work through. There is a bunch missing in this story. Is this all behavioral changes after the wedding? If this is a “I’ve got him locked down because he’s married to me” type thing that would be a huge red flag to me. Please, don’t have children until this is completely sorted out. Probably years.

That may be, but Gottman theory is based on research not the Bible. When I was searching for therapists, secularity was something that was important to me. So maybe I sift it out all those that come with a more religious perspective. Therapists are individuals, so I would recommend definitely looking into their background and how they focus on things.

I had experience with 3 therapists. The first was religious bent and I got the “you did all the wrong” men bad schtick. I would run from these, in spite of whatever intentions they have, they are usually misguided. The other two were Gottman certified counselors. I think it would have been amazing if the other side was actually willing to do the work. Both times we got to the point where work was actually required: Introspection, accountability, and truth made her run. I would only look for Gott…

You can look in my post history and see, but I played this dance with my ex three times. Each time she had buyers remorse about her actions, it was because I had started to see someone. Unfortunately, because I thought I owed it to my children, I let her back in. I cannot express how much of a mistake It was to let her have any extra second with me. manipulation tactics, fueled by buyers remorse, regret, and The fear of losing her back up. She’ll probably say something along the lines of “well, …

We can only work with the information you wrote. Is “your girlfriend” still married? Then yes, someone else’s wife. You say that you’re lost, but seem perfectly happy deflecting good advice trying to put you on a better path. The adage “once a cheater, always a cheater” is accurate mostly because cheaters are addicted to the external validation and refuse to reflect inward and figure out the internal issues that caused the poor choices. Choose to do what you will with the information, but stick …

There’s a few things going on here. First, you cheated on your wife. Justify it however you like. Emotional affairs are just that, an emotional affair. Yes there are confounding factors, but the choice to be a cheater was taken by you. Second, your wife is probably severely depressed and needs therapy. Will she accept that assessment from you, probably not. You are no longer a safe space and a source of pain instead. “I don’t want to hurt her” - that should have been a consideration a long time …

Adults don’t hang out in an apartment for two days playing patty cakes. This looks to be an exit affair. Take advantage of the affair fog and move quickly. Go see a few divorce lawyers and move forward. It will never go back to what it was. To completely rebuild, which would be from below ground up, would take enormous amount of work from both of you. If she is unwilling, it’s not happening. Read ( or listen to) “leave a cheater, gain a life”. Dad starting over and “now what” is also a good star…
