A sad part to note though is that’ll be stored in some record somewhere as a “involuntary” hold. The involuntary part makes it kinda hard to do some things. From experience with friends who work at a college counseling center, they offer suicidal students the option to either go to a psychiatric hospital for a “voluntary” 72 hour “checkup”, or they’ll get a campus police officer to make it involuntary. I think what he means is that men get depressed and suicidal too. Culturally (thankfully to a lesser degree lately) showing vulnerability is seen as “feminine”, or bad for men to do. I can’t think of much more emotionally vulnerable things than seeking help for such intense emotions.
