If you just want to code, skip that shit and find some online tutorials on C, C#, or Java. You really only need to understand algebra at first. If books are more your thing, there are plenty of coding books on amazon, barnes and noble as well as most libraries. It isn't as scary or difficult as it might seem, you shouldn't put it off in favor of learning advanced maths. Take the plunge, my friend!

From what I read, he did ask for their consent before going to town on himself, it's just that some thought he was joking. Also, he admitted to it pretty much immediately.
