I think that unless the spouse receiving support is continually contributing to the success of the other spouse, support should be capped at the income they were making when they split.

I didn't say I 100% agree with it, I'm just explaining the legal rationale behind it. Why? Should one parent live in a mansion and take extravagant vacations and never have to work and the other spend all their time working, live in a shithole and not be able to afford to buy dinner, likely while having to shift around their schedule to accommodate the other parent's 'important' events and such?
