Generally personal injury settlements are not community property. FYI. They are meant to compensate the injured party.

Being in the military, whether you are married or not, includes health care, access to the exchange and commissary, and access to base childcare facilities (good luck because the waiting list is months long, if not years). You do get an allowance for housing OR base housing (not both) if you have dependents but you could get that with just a spouse and no kids. He's out of the military so no access to JAG unless he's in the Reserves. But, he could try his local and/or state bar association and see if they have a Veterans section.... Someone in there may be willing to work cheap or pro bono for a fellow veteran on a relatively simple divorce.

If you're the military member that house is yours. She is your dependent. If you divorce her she will be unable to live on base. So... That's just an empty threat. Agree with stopping by the JAG office and just getting a run down and what's happening and what your rights are.
