Audrey Hepburn! She ditched Hollywood when it was pulling mysogistic bullshit on her!

We place too much value on romantic relationships in this society that we lack deep friendships. Nurture your friends and family first, and that love will come back to you in a self-love you’ve never known before. Then you will feel so full that you won’t go looking for romantic love in desparation or maybe you will decide to have a child or adopt a pet instead. Find meaning in your community and you will never feel unloved again!

I recently experienced bullying at work. When others asked for examples of this bullying, I could only come up with subtle, passive aggressive examples which accumulated to me feeling discomfort around this person. People would tell me to defuse the situation with a positive comeback, but in the moment as the attacks hit me my body would freeze. Before FDS I would probably have carried on in this situation, but I informed my supervisor early enough for them to intercept a very public display of …

I think this shoot is a reaction to the tank top incident. I just wish that we lived in a world where we didn’t experience harassment and feel the need to react.

I do think he was the right partner for QE, but that doesn’t make him objectively high value lol. QE is a pickme with a crown, so that throws off my perspective on it.

In response to a now deleted comment on Prince Philip’s high-valueness or low-valueness: I was wondering this myself, but I only have what I know of from The Crown to think it out. I think a HVM makes a great father, and Prince Philip wasn’t a great dad to Charles. It seems like he was a better dad to Anne and the others because Charles was intended to become king, however. We also know a lot more about parenting now, but in comparison to King George VI, who was an excellent father to QE, Prince…

If anyone wants to read a memoir about a protein biochemist, read I Died for Beauty: Dorothy Wrinch and the Cultures of Science. She was predicting biological structures, and Linus Pauling was a big scrote at the time. He was so greedy to solve protein secondary structures and later the DNA helix that he purposefully trashed Dorothy Wrinch’s competing work. Her contributions to fundamental principles in biochemistry are underappreciated to this day.

Since I’ve had to confront my own health, I’ve learned how freaking resilient people with disabilities are. Amidst all of the shit, we still find the positive. It’s an extraordinary thing.

I’m 28 and struggling with rheumatoid arthritis. I bounce between staying extra health conscious and then sabotaging my body because it’s already malfunctioning anyway. I feel you. I stopped drinking alcohol or having casual sex, and I cut out anyone from my life whose shit was dragging me down. I say ‘no’ more at work, which has helped me focus better. I enjoy doing the things I have to do and then allowing myself to say no to the rest. Before I was struggling with health I would feel guilty fo…

I know that at one point he asked her to make room for his video game playing in their relationship because he had a lonely childhood and video games were all he had. I personally believe that he has her now and doesn’t need video games in this way anymore, but because he’s from a more disadvantaged background she feels more responsibility to make him happy if that makes sense? I don’t know how to break down this logic with her.

In some sense too they have less invested in the interests of women because they do not desire to pair-bond with us. This leaves them in a strange gray area as a woman. I still value them as friends, but I will never prioritize my relationships with them over relationships with my HV sisters.

So I tried to date someone who I would consider to be a workaholic. What I can say is that it’s called workaholism because it is a compulsive need to work to the detriment of all else. Do you notice that this man also neglects essential things in his life, such as health and leisure time? Those are classic signs of a workaholic, and by definition, a workaholic is not a HVM. After I tried to date this particular workaholic, I noticed that he finally found a girlfriend about a year after I blocked…

I sometimes forget how gay men have a history of feeding the patriarchy for their own self-preservation. As much as I love my pals who are gay men, I’ve also learned to remain alert. There’s thought in the LGBTQIA community that once gay men received their equal rights socially and under the law they don’t raise the voices of the many others who are still fighting for theirs. I wouldn’t call my gay male friends feminist allies either. Leaving a shitty employer will always be to your benefit. Oth…

I always felt this way about the Sirens and Calypso. Any time a woman is casting nefarious spells on a man, it is always a story about how victimized men are.

Thank you for everything here. I much prefer this ending!! I’m relieved to hear this about George Bernard Shaw too. It’s unfortunate how damaging the story is with its public ending.

Men who call themselves empathetic are walking red flags. I’ve encountered a few of them in the wild, and nothing about my experiences with them screamed empathetic. It fucking sucks, and I’m sorry. Knowing the truth about this breed of scrote helps me make peace with the experiences though. I hope your friend finds peace. P.S. don’t show or tell her until she is in an okay place emotionally and physically. When you do tell her, let her decide if she wants to watch it without forcing it on her. …

I had a psychiatrist ask to hold my hands while he told me that I was a lost cause. I switched to a lady doctor, and the next med worked perfectly.

I had an old friend I thought I trusted place his hand on my lower thigh at a wedding (I was in a dress, so my bare leg was touched). I took it as a sexual advance because I had already told him I was interested in maybe exploring a relationship with him. Later that night we were walking in the dark and he deliberately touched my hand while we were walking. The confusing part is that he made no extra effort to spend time with me at the wedding, and I saw him take a vapid selfie in his suit befor…

My college ex totaled my car right before graduation. For graduation my dad gave me a new (reliable, used, old person looking) car, which was clearly the last bit of financial or emotional support he would ever give me. I was enduring a drawn out breakup with my ex the summer after graduation, and while I was away with family my dad’s girlfriend had offered to watch my pets (big mistake). I return home to an email sent around to my relatives that was basically a narcissistic attack by my dad’s g…

I like that you pointed out that it applies to all men in our lives. I’ve thrown out trash co-workers and medical practitioners when I realized what a lost cause it was to put effort into working well with someone who does not respect me.

Here’s a quote from the creator PWB which confirms my interpretation: She just feels the pressure of being sexual and being sexually attractive so much more that it’s kind of become innate in her character. And my fear for so long about younger women, especially today, was that they would feel like a vital part of being a woman and especially a young woman is how sexually attractive you are. And I wanted to create a character that kind of was the walking example of how that can go wrong, because…

That’s a fair point. What it’s missing is that her father gave her the free therapy sessions, which from my view was offloading his issues on to her. She and her sister receive these feminist tokens from him yet all of the pressure of the narrative is on them to adapt to the disappointing circumstances. Why is it always on women to adjust to the unjust reality? Edit: I re-read your comment to better understand your point. I think we’re in agreement, and I can absolutely see it interpreted that w…

This is where I hit a brick wall with others who watched the show. Fleabag is clearly miserable and doesn’t want to live this way anymore. She is so exasperated by our reality too.

I was in college when Girls started airing. No joke that show damaged me. Looking at it now I can see how patriarchal it was. I can see how the same fear would apply to Fleabag.

I watched Fleabag before discovering FDS, so I wonder how my interpretation would be different had I watched it post-FDS. My initial interpretation of it was that women are playing a losing game, and I saw myself a lot in her character. A male friend watched it and loved joking about the disturbing abuser rehab scene. Taking that one piece of dark comedy and interpreting it as slapstick comedy rubbed me the wrong way. That scene served to show that even in the process of abuse recovery society s…

I had a dude insist on a walking date. I told him that I didn’t feel safe because it was past dark etc. and if we could do a lunch date or something later that week. Then he started complaining how other dudes were ruining dating for him by making women afraid of hiking type first dates (which yeah, violence against women sucks but don’t get all whiny like it requires you to do more work, ugh 🙄). He said that he was hyper-aware of the Me Too movement and just wanted to respect women. Well, I was…
