This is a good question. There is a process of acquiring information. Studies have fair but rigorous standards, so that it's difficult to scew questionnaires in one direction or the other. That f.e. being, the samplesize, double blind tests, aso. I bet wiki has a lot of info on this for you. Though one has to say, if many many studies confirm the same thing, even though your anecdotal evidence is to the contrary; ignore the anecdotal evidence.

Sharing kids as a huge big family sounds utopian ie unrealistic. Having multiple partners, maybe in a vacuum. But not today, and not in the near future.
