Do cool shit, share said cool shit with others. Get some camping gear, invite somebody out camping. Learn how to make a good recipe and invite someone over. Learn how to fly, take your friends flying. Be pleasant to be around, have your life in order.

I worked with these helicopters for several years as a guide; she wasn't in much danger. I was far more worried about someone running away from me into the tail rotor.

I didn't end up joining the military, but most of the people I work with are veterans (we're mechanics). Talk to some people in the branch/job you want to do, and talk to them about all aspects of their lives/career during and post military. Figure out what the military will teach you/do for you, and if you see yourself in a better place than going the civilian route, do it. In hindsight, I've made a lot of less than ideal decisions. Do at least one "self improvement" activity every day. Go talk to some girls. Go work out. Find which of these activities give the best results and make it a habit.
