My daughter is 4.5 and we have never spanked. My husband was against spanking from the beginning (although that was not something we really discussed) and I had always kinda assumed we would spank. I mean I was spanked and turned out fine! Then I had a baby and she was little and, well, you don't hit little babies. And then she was walking and getting into things and well, she didn't know any better, so hitting her didn't seem right? And she got older and she did things that got her in trouble b…

We use Google Calendar, but it is not great for mapping out a full day. I am able to add and share calendars with my husband so everything is color coded. Green for him, purple for me, red for the kid's school stuff, and yellow for anything else for her. I have a friend that raves about http://www.cozi.com// which might be something a little more what you are looking for.

Don’t put your marriage on hold while you’re raising your kids or else you’ll end up with an empty nest and an empty marriage. This is a great one, but I see a lot of women who say "Well, we have date night once a month!" Once a month really isn't going to cut it if the rest of the time you don't put him first. My husband and I don't really have date nights, it isn't our thing. Even when dating, it was just hanging out at his place or mine. Yet, it is the daily actions of living life together. W…

Negativity can feed on itself, and it is so tempting to share "war" stories about your husband when with a group that are doing that. I have one family member that I have had to stop sharing really anything about daily life with my husband, because even the nice and sweet things she had a way to turn it sour by complaining about her husband or mocking him.

This site has some useful info: http://www.passionatehomemaking.com/2012/10/homemaking-help-101.html While looking around I cam across this quote from Professionalizing Motherhood Cultivate the skills, not only of housekeeping, but of making a home for your family. As you know already, they are not always exactly the same. Housekeeping consists of the laundry, the dishes, the toilets, and floors that need to be scrubbed, but homemaking is something else… Homemaking is the deliberate cultivation …

Once a week we host a gathering of friends; anywhere from 3-10. It has been something that has been going on for over 8 years now. It started out hanging out at a local coffee shop once a week. When we had our daughter, everything shifted to being here at the house. Us and one other friend are the only three that has stuck with it the entire time, the rest of the group is fairly fluid. I host larger parties twice a year, once in the spring and once at Christmas. My sister does one at the 4th and…

Are you scheduling some "me time"? My husband is a stay at home dad right now, but for the 8 years before that we both worked from home. When our daughter was first born I let her set her schedule and then about 6 months in I realized I had to get her in bed at a decent time, and now years later I realize how important those 3-4 or so hours after she goes to bed at 7:30 are to me. Generally the first hour is all me, and my husband let's me have it to do whatever I want. Then there is some bondin…

I can totally relate to that story! Not only have I blown up over something or mocked him for a mistake, I have used it to get a cheap laugh as well! These last three weeks I have really focused on not letting the shrew out because he doesn't need that extra aggravation, and it really feels as we have pulled closer together. I was able to support him and be his soft place to land, and he didn't have to deal with extra trouble !

Thank you! The thing about this incident is that it has helped a lot of things click! On such a grand scale how my actions could have made this better or worse for him, where the day to day I kinda got but it wasn't sticking. It feels more natural now to not be that shrew and less like acting.

I won't say that there hasn't been frustrations, but I have kept them stamped down from becoming overblown. One incident I can think of from early on: I was wrist deep in ground chuck, breadcrumbs, eggs, and other ingredients making meatloaf when he came over and stuck a bottle next to me to open. I felt that bubble of anger start to expand, but I bit my tongue and just showed him my hands. He told me no worries to get it when I was done. Some deep breaths and I was good. Of course, he wasn't do…

I am trying to cut out the "be careful" altogether, for my husband and daughter. He is a grown adult who doesn't need that kind of reminder, and she doesn't need me making her fearful. Now, of course with a four year old she might need some guidance on how to be safe during some activities, but I am trying to trust them both more.

There are for sure the differences I haven't really explored between male and female, but over arching I think we would have the same goals no matter the gender of our kid. I am fairly new to all the RP stuff and I am not sure how I will pass that on to our daughter, and even less clue how I would have done so with a son. I am still trying to find my way through it, but I am glad I found my way here so that I hopefully have some better advice and guidance to pass on than I received as a kid!

We have one daughter, and do not plan to have more. No matter the child's gender, I think I would have had the same goals A safe heaven: Every night, I lay down with her so she can tell me what was the best part of her day, the worst part, and anything that has been on her mind lately. Creating that dialog now when she is 4 I hope will lead to a teenager who can be open with me. I want to be that mom with that house where the kids hang out, not because I don't care what they do, but because I do…

Before I was pregnant and had kids, I didn't really know what I would do. I had already been hearing studies like this, but I always kinda figured that we would spank. I mean, in the south that is just how everyone does it. Then we had a kid, and I assumed that at some point we would start doing it, but she was so little, there was no way I could hit her. Now she is four, and I still haven't found a good reason to spank her yet. This isn't to say that I haven't wanted to, but the few times that …

I think the hardest for me is the lack of color as he prefers neutrals/basics. When we were turning a basement room into a play room, he asked me what color I was going to paint it and I said the same neutral/cream we have everywhere else. When he said "oh, I thought you might like to do some color" I was over the top excited! I did end up keeping mostly the colors that he liked, but there is one nook with a tangerine colored wall.

My husband is a minimalist, so finding the balance between warm and cozy and not a lot of clutter can be difficult. I am a reform clutter/knick knack person, so I do enjoy how quick and easy it is to clean, but things feel a bit stark to me. So far, it seems to be working out so far. We host weekly get together with our friends, plus various holiday inspired get togetherness. It really seems that as long as everyone has a place to sit or move around as desired and plenty of food and drink, the c…

I read this two days ago right before heading out of the house. I sat here gobsmacked for a moment before getting it in gear and heading out. I really want to gush about how this is such an amazing piece of advice, one of the best I think I have received in a long time. One thing he says is when I am arguing it makes him feel unloved, sometimes even despised, and not only would this help shut me up it would help us reconnect and show him that I love him so very much. Thank you!

Rotel is a tomato/chili/seasoning mix. Usually if I don't have any on hand, I have been fine to replace with with a can of diced tomatoes and a can of diced green chilies. Ranch Dressing in this recipe is a dry mix. Here you can buy the powder and either mix it up with buttermilk and mayo to make a salad dressing, or you can use it as a seasoning. This recipe seems to be the closest compared to what is in an ingredient pack.

Husband and I were originally 2 out of 4 roommates living in a house. The lease and bills were all in my name, and then each month everyone just gave me money. Somewhere in the first 6 months husband and I went from roommates to dating and by the end of the year he had decided it would be easier to deposit his checks into my accounts and I would handle the bills. Since that first year we have had everything joint. We have multiple savings accounts (general, home repair, kid's school), a joint ch…

I use Picaboo to make a memory book of my daughter for the last year to give out on Mother's day and Father's day. I subscribe to their e-mails and around this time they send out specials where you can get a 100 dollar voucher for around 35 bucks. Then my husband and I would usually spend the day with his mom, have lunch or whatever she wanted to do. This year my mom has moved closer, so my sister and I are talking about meeting her halfway to have lunch and a little shopping excursion.

http://www.amazon.com/Thanth-Womens-Collar-Cardigan-X-Large/dp/B00QA88RRO/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 These are the ones I have found. The one that is short in the front I was not a fan of, it had some weird elastic thing going on in the shoulders which made in uncomfortable to wear with tank tops. The one with the front longer doesn't have that.

I was doing that for a while and then a rush at work happened, I didn't have time to make more and so we bought some Gain and that was my downfall. We played heavily when it first came out, and then after Burning Crusades we gave up. We played on and off on some vanilla non-official servers here and there. Those little snaps of anger is something I have been working on as well! Except I am not quiet there for it to be something in the past. Monday we were going to a friends house to pick up a mattock. walking on eggshells Exactly! We didn't start out that way, but somewhere that began to happen. I am still learning, but really I think being a strong individual is something my husband will appreciate, but somewhere strong began to be synonymous with nagging and controlling with a dose of anger thrown in. I could see the lack of any type of prevention to be a mood killer. Instead of being in the moment, I would think he is having to hold back, concentrate on the right time to pull out. I can't imagine that condoms would be less fun than frequent sexy time. So give it a try and let him relax some!

Even though we have been together 12 years, really the last 5 (since I became pregnant) was when the big change in his life occurred. ISTJ / Effectiveness My boss loves the Myers Brigg stuff, so I have been aware of being an ISTJ for years. I think it has been pretty accurate. One site labels ISTJ's as "The Duty Fulfiller". There are strengths to that (loyal, dependable, gets things done) but I have also experienced the weaknesses (taking on too much work, being too controlling, falling into "catastrophe mode") The Effectiviness part is something to to me, but as soon as I read "Will you handle things – can I rely on you?" as …

It is a long road and I know that I have barely started my journey, but the progress made has been amazing for my relationship! My husband has pointed out recently how much more pleasant I am to be around, and it feels great knowing that he is starting to enjoy spending time with me again! I still make a lot of mistakes, the nag comes back some…

He is pretty exact in the language he uses, and I will agree that tolerable is the right word. We have had many discussions about things that are great in our marriage and what has not been. Pretty much there were two big issues. Being a controlling, nagging, shrew was the second big issue. Lack of sex the second. I always promised and tried to do better, but it wouldn't last long. When I found RPW it was like a light went off and I suddenly had a path to get me where I wanted to be. There has b…

We are debating taking on a kitchen remodel. Rustoleum has a cabinet refinishing kit that we have been looking at to update the look to something more modern. The thought of having my kitchen in a mess for 2 weeks makes me a little weak kneed.

"Thank you for being so much more tolerable this year. I feel silly saying that, but really you have been much more pleasant to be around lately", said my husband. The Good: Progress is being made! The bad: Tolerable is not the end goal. So there is more progress to be made. The ugly: Being told I have been tolerable excited me. Yeah, that was how bad I had gotten. In other news, it has been great having him lead on the finances. We have put back an extra 20% so far this month over what we had d…

Facebook - This is the biggest one. I scroll through it on and off throughout the day at work. Small friend list of friends/family/a few co-workers. About the only thing I post is pictures to share with the far flung family. Instagram - My niece told me this is what all the cool kids use now, so I installed it. I don't quiet get why I need Facebook and Instagram since everyone posts the same thing to both, butI am now taking pictures of random things and posting to see how long before she asks m…

So, I ended up binge watching this at work, and I really enjoyed it. You are right about that one lady, but toward the end I thought she was going to have a turn around. She was saying in the video journal that she could be softer and nicer, but looks like she got over that pretty quick. I am really sad that they didn't focus more on the dad/son and then the young married couple more. They seemed to be putting an honest effort into it without all the drama. If all the families had been more like…

The better: The last update was an ugly one, and we are still dealing with some fall out of my bitchiness two weeks ago. I can still tell that he is withdrawn and I am trying hard to STFU more. There was one day that started to go off rails and I caught myself. The hard part he is a fixer and if there is a problem he wants to talk about it right then and figure it out and fix it. I realized I was going off the deep end and I was being irrational but when I try to shut down to stop it, he feels t…

My Buddha Board. It sits on the corner of my desk with a picture, a rock that I like and a lavender candle. It is my little corner of zen. Everything is passive and I enjoy looking at it, but the Buddha board is great to just take a quick break, draw something on it, and then move on.

I have some from Wal-mart but I have not checked there. I am not really super picky about what little jewelry I wear. As long as it doesn't turn me colors, I am fine! not a thing you love, but who you love. Exactly!

I have looked on Etsy before and found several I liked, but then couldn't choose. They have some really cute ones that has a single birthstone on them, just a little chip, that would maybe be nice for a thumb ring.

We really don't do Valentines, so I will share an anecdote... I had a thumb ring that I had worn forever that an ex had given me, but when I became serious with my husband I stopped wearing it. For our first real valentines together he bought me a new one (Although it was more "I want to buy you a new one and look it is Valentines" rather than "It is Valentines, need to get her something!"). It was a plain white gold band and I wore it every day. Move forward 10 years, and I lose it. I was heart…

"I know everything will be fine, I trust you" I love this phrasing. I am working on letting go of control and this is something I need to tell my husband more. I do trust in him and in his decisions, and I need to show it more.

The ugly: Old me was back last week and it was awful. I could feel and see how much he was pulling away. I thought we had not been making progress, it was so slow that I thought it was not happening. Yet, when I went into nagging/controlling mode, and he pulled away, I saw how much better things had been. On top of my attitude, taxes are a mess and we are having to file an amendment on the last three years. It initially was just an annoyance (we had been claiming that my husband has a roth IRA, …

I have a 4 year old daughter, and we don't call things chores, but responsibilities. As soon as she could stand and walk she started helping out with things around the house. Now she puts up her own laundry in appropriate places (both dirty and clean), puts her dishes in the dishwasher or sink as needed, in the morning if the dishwasher she also puts in the soap and starts it, she picks up her toys. We are big believes in the Montessori method, so we just always tailored to her level and abiliti…

I do! Especially since I started shaving (using lotion) every morning instead of not messing with it because it is winter and I am wearing pants. My husband has mentioned liking my smooth legs and skin. I also feel better prepared to face the day.

Joined about a month ago: Daily pampering/showering routine. Instead of a quick shower whenever I get a chance, I have carved out a time in the morning to take care of it and it is longer and more pampering than utilitarian. Less argumentative and controlling... for the most part. Last couple of days have had a backwards slide, but working through it. Things over all been more harmonious and fun.

I can totally understand getting lost in doing everything for everyone else. Please be sure to take some time for yourself! I read in The Surrendered Wife to write down two list: things that you find fun (reading a book, watching a tv show, pampering, etc) and things that are rewarding (crafting, projects, etc), and then try to do at least three of them a day. I am not there yet, but even getting in one and sometimes two a day really makes a difference.

The good: The dryer had stopped drying as well and we were able to replace a couple of pieces to get it running again. I have little patience for fixing things, or home projects overall especially with how meticulous he is. The first night was replacing the part (it was not in the back like he had read about, but underneath) and it took almost three hours and was worse than before. Next night, went faster, found a wire knocked loose, and all is good. I worked on STFUing, no sighing when he asked…

I would have to agree with the COO of yoru home class. Ga! I know so many women who suffer in this area. I know I am new on my journey to be a RPW, but I do have the basics down of cooking, and cleaning, and hosting for parties, small get together and the like. A well ran house makes for a happy family. Also, before I found RPW, I had been watching these films from the 1940/50's https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL41A7E7D7917A989A

He is honest. Being totally honest was one of the first foundations of our relationship, and I have to say it was hard for me at first. Not the big lies, but the little stuff, the things we tell little white lies for to make someone happy or to not cause waves. I love that I can ask him his opinion and he will give me a real honest answer. I love that I can do the same back to him. He is analytical and logical. It is why the honest thing works so well. He isn't jumping to conclusions. He isn't a…

worst case scenario, i can do like in the olden days and seek female companionship via my female relatives of similar age. This is what I do. My sister is my best friend. She is older, so I am actually closer in age with her two oldest kids than her, so we are friends more than aunt/niece. I am also close with my mom, my aunt and grandmother from my Dad's side, all who are great for advise on life.

The Good: Things are a lot more harmonious around here. Primping/Self-care is going along pretty well. Face is almost totally healed from the chemical burn of trying out new face cleanser. Husband handled updating the finances this week. The bad: Diet is going so-so. Getting better in the swing or eating right. I turned down two pancake breakfasts, so yay! I was a bit controlling about the process he was using to update. I finally did manage to shut up and apologize. Also we spent a lot of money…

My husband and I both quit after reading The Easy Way to Stop Smoking by Allen Carr. I have recommended it to all the smokers I know, and I can't rave enough about it. When my husband suggested it I thought "How in the world can a book help me stop smoking?" and I went into it very skeptical. It didn't say anything everyone doesn't already know about how bad smoking is, it just really seemed to put it in a manner that really clicked. I finished the book, had a smoke, and was done. I don't get ex…

The good: Sat down with my husband Saturday and showed him how I had been tracking spending. He immediately began thinking of ways to improve it. I also went through some of the bill paying stuff, but until he wants to wait until he has a system that works better. I am committing to eating better. This is something that is hard for me, but I need to lose about 30lbs and it is time that it is gone. I also want to be healthy and here for a long time for him and little bit. My face is healing (slow…

Thank you for this lovely write up! Your phrasing and explanations are so easy to follow. This has been on my mind since I first read it after it was posted, and I have probably re-read it half a dozen times. I was at first having a hard time figuring out where to place us, mainly because everything got so out of whack around here. I had to think back a lot to how things used to be, back to the times, when as my husband has said I "wasn't a bitch". I think at this point we are LHL, but I am not …

That would have been a good idea, but nope. I went full hog on it! Although it didn't cause an issue until the 4th use s, so I am not sure a patch test would have helped. Moving forward when I pick something out, that is something I will be doing though and multiple times. This has kinda not been fun.

This week I had to actually just bite my lips to keep my mouth shut while he was driving. I am constantly telling him he is going too slow or too fast, is in the wrong lane or taking the wrong route. My daughter likes me to ride in the backseat with her, and when I do, I barely pay attention to what he is doing. I have thought about joining her back there more until I am better at being quiet.

I started using Cerve (found on the r/SkincareAddiction/ basic start up list) on Saturday. This morning after the new routine is the first time I have had issues with it! My cheeks are all red and kinda burning. Thank you for the link! I was being kinda lazy and hoping it would be something simple I could start up. Skincare is something I have never messed with before. So, looks like I need to dive in more!

Usually it takes about six months to a year This was also part of what made me want to cry! Honestly, he has told me on and off over the years how I have been suffocating him, and nagging, and at points unbearable to be around. I heard him, I tried to be better, but it never really clicked or panned out. When I found rpw last week, it was a light bulb moment! Saying "yes" more and talking less is really the number one thing I need to work on.

The good: Saying "yes" to sex every time, new primping routine, being more agreeable. For the first time in my life, I have showered every single morning and shaved. It has been a fairly harmonious week, and my husband seems a bit less tense/ansy. The bad: I think my new face cleanser is giving me a chemical burn or something. Also a few random arguments with my husband that I totally could have just STFU on. The ugly: It has been less than a week, and it is really dawning on me how much of a co…

Hi! I only found this subreddit yesterday, but the message and lifestyle is something that has really resonated with me. I have been unsatisfied for a while now in my marriage and I know my husband has been as well. The more posts, blogs, and articles I devour, the more I am struck by how my treatment of my husband has been a disservice to him, to our relationship, and to me. I started reading the Surrendered Wife last night. My goal this week is to devour as much material as I can as well as beg…
