Can you elaborate on the situation and what in the decree do you think would prevented it?

Please be careful when you say all you want is 50/50 Custody. There is so much involved here.

If you have kids there are many things to consider and have in your decree so you don’t get screwed. There are many subtleties, but your attorney will not call them out or think to.

I would recommend asking for whatever you could ultimately see yourself taking advantage of. If you want 2 weeks of vacation then write in your decree that you would like it to include the preceding weekend beginning at x day and y time. You will also want to include the following weekend. You can choose 3 weeks in total to be contiguous or separate. Remember that whatever you ask her for, you will have to be prepared to give her in return when you are in a 50/50 Joint Custody arrangement. Every…

This is one of those issues not worth digging in about. You are just starting the process and keeping cooler heads is going to serve you much better during the divorce process. What you will find is that once the kids get old enough to have their own iPhone, you’ll be able to have them turn on location services and it won’t even involve your ex.

It's best not to argue with her over these little things especially if you are preparing for separation as going through the divorce process, you do want to keep things as even tempered as possible and keep it for what's best for the kids. You do not want any attorney you hire to get excited when their clients argue over small items as they just see dollar signs and the cash register ringing. What you will find is that once your kids begin having their own iphone, that it will be much easier to …

I would tell her that filing for divorce is not too public. People aren’t looking up divorce filing public records. It’s not like your picture in on the post office wall. I would plainly tell her that you’ll withdraw the filing and that you and her can separate or stay together and work on things so you both can save the family. I would also reiterate how couple who have worked through difficulty later on find it’s brought them much closer in the long run and you’ll do whatever is necessary to h…

I’m going to differ with many opinions here. If she said it but didn’t mean it then she was saying it because she need to get your attention and she obviously isn’t happy about something. You have 17 years with 3 kids at great ages. Do whatever you have to including therapy with her or separately to work through whatever needs to. You do NOT want to get divorced if the marriage has a chance. Many many marriages go through hell and back that get on the brink of divorce but they work through it. I…

You are her Daddy and she has, and will only ever have 1, and that’s you. No amount of money or things or trips can even come close to the bond between a daughter and her Daddy. The most important thing in life are free and the are invaluable. They are your time with her, they are when you listen to what she has to say, it’s when you play 20 games of “go fish”, it’s holding hands walking in the park, it’s looking at tadpoles in the pond, it’s fishing in the pond, it’s going to Braun’s and gettin…

That is a really good one, I know filing single is going to be higher, but didn’t think about getting a CPA to evaluate what that difference would be. Thanks for sharing, this whole process sucks and there’s not a lot of support for us guys out there against a system that favors women. I’m so thankful I recently found this group!

Rebuilding: When Your Relationship Ends by Bruce Fisher It’s a great book! It’s like he’s in your head knowing what you’re going through.
