Damn dude! Did you make that up or is that what you experienced? And yes, many of these guys are either lying to the OP out of shame, lying to themselves, or they are relatively young and the wife hasn't discovered that she has been unhappy all along. Nothing else can explain the 50% divorce rate. We are NOT the "exceptions." And many unhappy couples who don't divorce hate each other and sleep in separate bedrooms to save face for religious, reputational, financial, or other reasons. I know seve…

If you don’t her to take your child across the country, you better talk to a lawyer now. And a therapist to help you figure out what you want to do. If she leaves and you sit around feeling sorry for yourself while she is establishing residency there, it will be harder to have a judge order her to bring your kid back. Act NOW.

Go to the child support enforcement office in the state/county where she is located and file a claim. In many states this is a division of the local prosecutor’s office. They will not charge you for their services. I assume you can prove you have custody of your son. Do you know where she works and her home address? This will help them serve her with the CS petition. Eventually they should garnish her wages and send the money to you. Go do this now. Good luck.

I consulted this sub also. Replaced therapy for me. I’m doing great now - I’m two years out from the final divorce order.

At least you are honest enough with yourself to admit your mistake. I’m 59 years old and I’ve never met a woman like your ex. Did you apologize to her?

Ex wives and girlfriends tell this lie about wanting to be "alone" because they want to spare us the pain from the knowledge of being dumped for another guy. I'm 59 and been dumped a few times. Every single time it's been for another guy, but I didn't learn of the other guy until later. This is called "monkey branching" by the red pill guys. In divorces, most of us on this sub learn that there was another guy. Not 100%, but I'd bet it's at least 80%. Men learn too late in life that women lie and…

Most family lawyers will give you an initial free consultation. Use this to get some general parameters of what might be in store if you decide to leave. Many men on this sub have been through custody battles, accusations of DV and more. You can use this sub as a resource for support, but you also need legal advice.

Not in TX, but my ex-wife and I both agreed to have life insurance policies for X amount to be paid to the other until our youngest finishes college or age 25, whichever comes first. I’m not sure if it’s in the state statutes, but we had no problem agreeing to it.

The longer you wait, the worse the divorce will be, financially and emotionally. She is never going to be financially responsible — you know that. You are also headed for a real dead bedroom. There are guys on this sub that haven’t had sex with their wives in 20-30 years. I’m serious. She is also at the point where she is losing respect for you, if she isn’t already there. In most US states, even with 50/50 custody, if you make significantly more than her, you will pay child support. Your real i…

I was also married to a woman who I believe to be a narcissist. Everyone thinks she was the innocent church girl, and I was the lying cheating asshole who traded her in for a younger woman. The truth is, I never cheated on her once and I left because I couldn't take her treatment any longer. Unless you have actual evidence of what she's done, no one will believe you. Based on my profession, I am very well aware of how to present evidence, but I don't care anymore and I suggest you do the same. M…

To be fair, you are talking to a bunch of dudes who are already divorced, and most of whom were dumped by their wives. Keep that in mind. You said she has had one foot out of the door, but you have also stated that she has responded to your attempts to “step it up.” Since you are still concerned that she is contemplating leaving, I would suggest marital counseling. Normally, I think it is offered by the husband when the wife has already made up her mind to leave, but in your case it may not be t…

They will fade. Like you, I left her. Had sex dreams on a semi-regular basis for the first few months. Today it’s been about two years since the divorce was final. I can’t remember the last time I’ve dreamed about her.

This is close to what we did. She stays in the house for four years (two years are left!) and I pay her about 1/3 of the mortgage payments until our daughter graduates from high school, then we sell and split the proceeds. I got out of what would have been 15 years of alimony by doing this — I’m surprised she accepted it! She can also decide to buy me out if she wants. Win-win, but especially a win for me. She loves that house, and I hated it. I recognized the risk of staying on the mortgage, bu…

There are great comments here. Do you have kids with her? If not, once the divorce is final, you will probably never have to speak to her again. I left my wife after 18 years of disrespect, and I only hesitate to call it abuse because of my male ego. I don’t claim to have been a perfect husband, but objectively I did what I was supposed to do. Since I left, all her family, friends, colleagues and our church congregation think I am a selfish asshole who is going through a mid-life crisis. How do …

I think the only mistake I failed to make while dating after divorce was marrying a single mother. Thank God I at least had the sense to not do that. I do understand the temptation, so I am not criticizing Teddy. Every man needs to read Teddy’s answer. I dated one for a few months, and it was the best sex I ever had, bar none. She was broke as a joke, and was looking for a white knight. When women are sufficiently motivated, they can appear to be the woman of your dreams - super nice to you, no …

I like this take. Maybe wait until the kid starts school. The odds are very high that you will not make it until the kid reaches 18. Also, there might be nights when you have sex with her - you are human. Surprise! Baby number two. Now that I think about it more, get the hell out of there. DNA test, and if you are the daddy, you can be a great dad without being married to the wrong woman.

I do not buy that, across the board, older men are overestimating their PHYSICAL attractiveness. I am an older man, and I do NOT believe I am attractive to most women, especially younger women, despite being in excellent shape for my age. Since I don’t date younger women, I don’t think about this much. I do have male friends my age (50s) who date significantly younger women. 100% this. I am also an attorney and I completed my divorce two years ago. Don't move out now, and avoid conflict as much as you can. I know this is easier said than done. I slept in the attic for almost two years during the "separation" to make sure I didn't screw myself by moving out prematurely. This will be difficult financially and emotionally, but it will be worth it.

We exchange custody of our daughter once a week. Most of the time we will not share a room when we do this. Other than things like graduation, moving into the college dorm, maybe a wedding — I do not want to speak to her or see her ever again. This is very common.

This is a short marriage. The financial hit shouldn’t be that bad if you end this. I felt like this about my ex-wife- the majority of the time she was a mean bitch to me as well. Are you going to deal with this for the rest of your life? Also, I doubt that she loves you. You know what you need to do. Time to man up.

You are making a fool of yourself. Her friends and her are laughing at you. And, every time you ask her to come back you disgust her and push her even further away. Yes, I’ve begged a woman to come back, as most guys on this sub have. There are 4 billion women on this planet. Find one that wants you, not your STBXW.

Unless she is unfit - especially as a woman (bias still exists in family court) — think drug addiction, record of child abuse, violent felonies, etc., if she wants custody, she will get at least partial custody. Obviously, don’t take my word for it, get a lawyer this week. I would not go for full custody unless you believe your son will truly be in danger when he is with her. All you will do is piss off the judge with unfounded bullshit. Since STBXW makes more, in most US States, she will pay ch…

I’m divorced, and I will not marry again. The OP’s position is harsh and cynical, but it is understandable based on the experiences of most on this sub. If there are only two doors before you, and you must pick one, and dozens of guys are emerging from one of the doors bleeding and limping, the odds are you will choose the other door. I struggle with whether I should tell my son not to get married. So many marriages don’t work out, but some do. I still believe (perhaps idiotically) that being in…

/r/Divorce_Men31/05/26 12:40 PM

Again, this true for plenty of men but not all men. Example — Jeff Bezos (Amazon) is one of the richest men on the planet. Billions and billions of dollars. I forgot the name of the woman he just married, but she is no spring chicken. He could have married a 21 year old if he wanted to, but he didn’t. I bet he doesn’t think he “settled” for her because he couldn’t attract a younger woman.

Please do not get married again. If you are tempted to do it in the future, and you might because women can be very persuasive when they are motivated to do so, I sentence you to 12 hours of reading this sub.

I am saying that ALL older men are not holding out for women that are 20 years younger. The downvotes I am receiving for saying this reveals how deep this stereotype goes. Regardless of the shit they talk online, many of those red pill influencers are married or living with women near their own age. Go to church, the movies, restaurants. You will see plenty of couples around the same age. This is related to the woman TikTokers that say they will only accept a man making six figures who is six fe…

I absolutely agree with your last point. Finding a suitable person FOR YOU on a dating app is difficult for all of us. Quantity is not quality.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/05/26 12:10 PM

I did not say that men messaging you on a dating app means they like you. You put words in my mouth. They don't even know you. You seem angry.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/05/26 12:05 PM

Your father is one person. Extrapolating the motives of all men from his one example is not a very strong argument for the point I think you are trying to make. My ex-wife was extremely selfish and would not do something if it did not directly benefit her. All women are extremely selfish because she was? This is lazy thinking. And men will date a woman they don't like for sex? Yes, some will. But this is not a refutation of my point that many men will not reject older women. Some red pill points…

I'm an older man. You are being overly influenced by men talking shit about not wanting older women. Go visit the "dating over 40" and "dating over 50" subs. You will find many women discussing that their inboxes are full of men that want to date them. There are many older women influencers on TikTok that discuss their dating lives, and many have multiple dates in a week. Yes, many men prefer younger women. And many date women their age or even older. My point is, you can find, and focus on, wha…

I feel the same way as you regarding the kids' events, and I also can't stand to be in the same room as her. But you can pick and choose how you show up for your kids. I agree with Nearby-Cut. You can navigate this in a way that reduces your blood pressure. I just helped our son move out of his dorm. Each of us had boxes in our hands and took them to our respective cars. To a degree I understand why people feel blindsided. I'm an old guy and I left my ex-wife three years ago, divorce has been final for two. I would complain/suggest different behavior from her from the early days of the marriage and these requests were met with rejection and indifference. Her favorite saying was, "This is who I am, deal with it." My frustration and resentment grew over time and I made the decision that I was going to leave but our kids were toddlers. I have a contrary opinion. The recordings protect you. Read this sub for a few hours; you will read men complaining that their wives falsely accused them of this or that. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a recording to prove what really happened? I would agree to it. Hell, if the divorce seems to be of the high-conflict variety, I’d add video cameras to the list.

I believe this is spot on. She is either already seeing other dudes and/or she will see him on the next "work trip." You don't realize it yet, but your marriage is already over - no sex in years? Yes, it's over. Time to face it; we've all been there. No, it's not easy, but it's time to get on with your life. Start talking to an attorney to see what the finances might look like. In addition to most things mentioned here, if she goes on any trips: work, family or “girls” trips, she is meeting that fool. Sorry, man. Most of us have been there and it hurts. I’d be convinced with just the secretive phone behavior. Start getting ready. At least consult with an attorney to start thinking about the process. If she ultimately admits the affair, and you take her back, she’ll cheat again, probably with her current boyfriend.

I’m one of those “in shape” older dudes. I work out with other oldsters. In my group, only one chases 20-year olds. Most of us are not delusional. Most understand that, maybe not 99%, but most young girls don’t want us, unless it’s a pure sugar daddy-baby situation. To correct one thing you said that is wrong — straight men do not work out for the admiration of other men. Correct! I dug deep researching this after my divorce. I am convinced that most of the time, they really don’t know why they lose attraction to us. When you examine their excuses carefully, they fall apart. Esther Perel and others have written extensively about this phenomenon, if you care to spend time exploring it. The red pill guys talk about men “holding frame” and “being an alpha” to prevent this, but it’s all bullshit. Over time, 95% of them lose attraction to us regardless of what we do. …

Ultimately, I blame myself. We had a long distance relationship for two years before the wedding. I thought I knew her, but I didn’t. We were older, so we intentionally got pregnant right after the wedding, followed by a second kid almost immediately. My daughter will be here tomorrow through next week (we have 50/50 custody) and I have the chessboard ready to go for us. But tonight I have a nice thing coming over for activities that do not involve a chessboard. It took me two years to get to this point.

I disagree with you regarding kids not remembering what parents repeatedly say. My parents divorced back when the mother would typically receive full custody and the father would receive “visitation” rights. I remember everything both parents said about the divorce as an 8-year old child and beyond. I also remember everything both parents said about visits, money, etc. and what actually occurred. Kids are sponges. They remember everything, especially about stressful situations.

I’m an attorney with 30 years experience and I communicate with attorneys throughout the US. Your information in this area is out-of-date. While “joint custody” language does not appear in most of the state statutes (yet) this IS the trend. No. 3 is not true in the US anymore. Most jurisdictions are moving to a default 50/50 custody model, even in SAHM spouse situations. Unless there are things like a demonstrably unfit parent, or a parent has a job requiring extensive travel, etc, this is becoming the norm.

Many of the men on this sub, while also imperfect, married the wrong woman. I don’t agree with a lot of the red pill stuff, but I do agree with this — men are in love with their wives, and we tend to take a lot of bullshit from them, cheating, abuse, etc. before we can finally let that love go. Lawyer in the US here. In my state, you could agree to move to a residence in the school district with appropriate accommodations for your children — the fact that you are currently (and temporarily) living outside of the district will not prevent you from getting 50/50 custody. To a degree, respect means different things to different people. I gave my ex-wife specific examples of things I found disrespectful. One of many examples was turning her back to me when I was trying to have a serious conversation with her. Openly ignoring me. Criticizing me in front of her friends in an attempt to embarrass me. I do believe, as you suggest, that men and women have different concepts for disrespect.

When I walked out, she was shocked. She told me she had never been dumped before, and I do believe her. We’ve been divorced for two years and she, and her friends, think I will come back one day.…

You said you are committed to figuring it out. Figuring what out? How to get her to stop disrespecting and abusing you? If you haven’t figured it out by now, you need help. Not from us, but from a professional. My ex-wife disrespected me. I told her how she did it with concrete examples. She was in denial. I suggested counseling. She said no, all I needed to do is follow her orders. I divorced her ass, and she still doesn’t understand why I left. Be a man and demand change or counseling.

You do not have experience as a Chad. We have a different life experience than average guys. I get that you don’t believe me, but if you know a real Chad, ask him. Try mediation if possible; believe me, it would be cheaper than a trial. The mediator (who is usually a lawyer) or her lawyer, if you both have lawyers, will explain to her the likely outcome at a full-blown trial. If she is reasonable (I know, I know) she will agree to a fair settlement.

I am a lawyer. Consult with a lawyer; do it before you start counseling. No one says you have to file for a divorce now. Have knowledge of your numbers and hers before you meet with them. They could give you general parameters of what spousal and child support might be. In most states, there are formulas that are used to determine assumed SS and CS payments, with SS usually determined by years married and income disparity, and CS determined by income disparity and the custody split, e.g. 50/50. …

She is selfish, that will never change. Cut the dead weight. Short marriage means that any spousal support won’t last too long. She’ll have to get a job, then you can possibly have the court lower your child support.

I am a lawyer. Not here to defend all lawyers. I divorced my wife two years ago, and I hired a lawyer. I took his counsel, but I was in control of the process from the beginning. I did something like this during my divorce (and I am a lawyer). In my state, a spouse can waive alimony/spousal support. I knew she wanted the house, so we agreed that I’d pay half the mortgage for four years in lieu of alimony, then she would buy me out of my half of the equity. Like you, I was absolutely opposed to paying that unfair bullshit (in our case, she has a well-paying job, but I made twice as much, so the alimony formula would have had me paying alimony for 18 years!). If you kept 5 million in a separate account in your name, and put 1 million in the joint checking account, the odds are, without knowing more details including your jurisdiction, the 5 million is yours as an inheritance (in most US states), and the one million could be considered marital property as commingled funds. In most states, with 50/50 custody, since she makes more she would pay you child support based on the state’s formula and might pay more than half for non-covered medical and other expenses. She might also have to pay you spousal support depending on how long you were married and other factors. Don’t be cheap - before you sign anything pay ~$500 to a family lawyer for a consultation. In most states, a CS order is automatically enforced by wage garnishment, unless it is waived. She could waive the garnishment in the settlement agreement, as my ex-wife did. We have 50/50, and I send her a check every month. Yes, theoretically she and I could reach a side agreement that I would not pay her and the court would never know unless she filed a motion to enforce the agreement.
/r/Divorce_Men14/09/25 11:03 AM
2

Agree with this - I am a lawyer. Also, in most states, there is a formula for CS that takes into consideration your respective salaries and the number of "overnights" that your children will spent at each home. You can find calculators for this online. With your income disparity, you will probably be required to pay CS, even with 50/50 custody. If you are trying to do this without lawyers, I would include that number in your settlement, and horse-trade regarding the other issues.

Does the agreement say that she forfeits the 20K if she cohabitates with a lover? I bet it doesn't. All you will probably do is pay a lawyer like me several thousand dollars in a futile battle, and pissing off the judge.
/r/Divorce_Men18/06/25 10:34 AM
3

No, it is not. Most states have a formula that determines CS. Included in the formula is usually the number of “overnights” the child(ren) spends with each parent. I have 50/50 with my ex-wife, but I make significantly more, so the formula spit out a child support number for me. I have several friends that are paying CS that have 50/50 custody.

Nothing you've said indicates you would have a problem getting 50/50. I suspect once her lawyer calms her down, she will re-engage settlement discussions with you. Kids were 13 and 16 when we separated. My ex, to her credit, did not attempt to alienate them from me, but remember, with 50/50 you have then half the time, so focus on being a good father that gives them what they need, not what they want. Agreed! Listen closely, and it’s a fancier version of, “the divorce was your fault, Mr. Cave Man.”

Do you have any family and/or old friends you can reach out to? If you don’t, then get a counselor, or divorce coach. You must find a way to process this. I am fortunate that I have friends who are also divorce lawyers, and they really helped me keep things in perspective. You are going to feel all kinds of emotions over the next few years, but you will feel better in time. My ex was manipulative also, and I was able to resist her reconciliation attempts, even though part of me still loved, and …

Agreed. The court might appoint a guardian to represent your child. I hope you have tallied to your lawyer already.

You need to hire an attorney NOW. Please tell me you have. False abuse allegations can land you in jail, even if you are innocent. You could have a state employee supervising your visits with your kids after you are released on bail. If she has mental issues, these are real possibilities. Take action NOW.

Please do not take this kind of advice. The judge, and her lawyer, will see right through it.

That doesn’t sound too bad, but I hear you about the 400K. At least you are finished with the payments and once your daughter graduates, you will probably have very limited opportunities to lay eyes on your ex. Please try to enjoy the rest of your life. I know I am.

My vote is yes. You be the bigger person and wish her a happy birthday, Mother’s Day and Christmas, if you celebrate it. I truly believe my treatment of my ex during the process helped us reach an agreement that I am happy with. If you have kids, you want things as amicable as possible for obvious reasons. Remember, you once (or still might) love this woman. Forget about revenge and take the high road. It might save you thousands of dollars at the end of the day.

I meant CS- child support. Not CC.

Talk to your lawyer about horse-trading. If you are prioritizing your retirement account, you could perhaps pay her a lump sum from the house equity, or another source to avoid the QDRO. My emotional trigger was alimony. Under our state guidelines, based on the income disparity and length of marriage, I was going to have to pay her for - I can’t remember the exact number of years, but it would have extended well into my retirement (I know I could have ultimately petitioned for a reduction after …

I just completed one. Both of us are 55. Married 20 years. Two teenagers, and a house. I make about twice what she does, but she had significantly more non-marital assets than me (inherited IRA and a separate house). It was fairly amicable, and our ultimate deal was 50/50 custody, I pay CS under the state guidelines, and I pay part of the marital house payment for five years until our youngest graduates from HS, then we sell the house and split the equity 50/50. We keep our respective retirement…

I just completed a divorce from my wife of 18 years. After consulting with many of my family lawyer friends, I decided to keep things status quo until I moved out. Yes, a judge could order you to keep things as they were before the case was filed, but the reasoning was primarily to avoid conflict as much as possible. I kept doing all the yard work, laundry, dishes, etc. It worked, I guess, because we reached a fair settlement that I can absolutely live with. Keep simping for a while longer; I th…

I just received 50/50 in Illinois, but it was via an agreement with the ex. If there is a custody fight, you might have to testify regarding how much time you have been a hands-on parent. It can get ugly - do you know their doctor’s and teacher’s names, have you taken them to appointments, etc. You will probably have an uphill battle because I’m guessing the SAHM took care of most of those things. I’d look at it from the spousal maintenance (alimony) side of things. Regardless of the current inc…

You are correct to worry. My ex-wife just stopped wanting it, period, and would not even try counseling. Almost every one of my male friends had the same experience. If sex is important to you, you have to weigh it vs. having kids. If you know you don’t want kids, DON’T get married.
