10 Myths about Family Law in the UKWhilst the courts seem prepared for difficult people, they don't seem particularly suited to 'fairness', it seems to me. Putting everything into a single matrimonial pot made sense in the old days when wives didn't (and subsequently couldn't) earn income, single handedly brought up children and kept house. These days, though, a couple can get married one of whom works hard and the other is a slacker with no dependents. At divorce, the default of the courts still seems to be 50:50 split which you… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/01/22 01:41 PM
To all the divorced men...It's optimism that some of us fell foul of. You go in thinking that marriage will be fair, otherwise why do it? But if it goes wrong, there isn't any fairness, and people you once thought good can show their greed and entitlement simply because they can. The downside of marriage is too high for optimism... | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/12/21 04:37 PM
Marital AssetCompletely agree. Freeloading on someone else’s income because you don’t want to work then also taking their pension away is immoral. I was shafted in exactly this way… The law, though, is an ass and can’t tell the difference between someone who’s a leech and a carer… | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/11/21 08:25 PM
Marital AssetIt depends, doesn't it? If you agree that one person is going to take a hit on their career to look after kids then it seems fair enough; the commitment is shared equally, it just happens that one person earns money whilst the other cares for children. And that's the way it used to be, but national laws haven't caught up. But it is unfair if one chooses to freeload, breaks the spirit of marriage through an affair, or causes harms like mental abuse. And especially, especially all three. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/11/21 01:59 PM
Anyone's ex wife ever killherself afterwards?"Put another way, for every divorced woman that committed suicide, over nine divorced men killed themselves." Ouch. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/09/21 12:36 PM
Advice neededYou're describing one of the worst combinations, I think. He's loyal and kind, doing the Right Thing. She's self-centered and needy. The more he gives, the more she takes and the more she expects him to give. Thing is, he's probably trapped in his thinking as a noble husband. Here's my opinion as an internet nobody. Lay him out a framework where he can coldly rationalize that his kindness and loyalty is being used where there is no upside to him, only downsides. Ask him what kindness his wife co… | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/05/21 10:27 AM
My divorce began just yesterday, wt...As time plods on, all the things that worry you now about the divorce will resolve themselves -- they have to! Who's looking after the children when, financial agreements, where you'll end up living, how much money you'll have left to enjoy life with your boys, how you'll parent together. What seems insurmountable now is just a mere decision away when you're ready for it. And you will be ready for it. New things will come up to stress you, and time will eat those up, too. Wherever you end up, yo… | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/05/21 02:05 PM
