Before a date, I’ll sometimes text something like “work was crazy and I might be a few minutes late” and add in something that invites a response if she’s actually showing up, like “are you still on pace for 8?” This way I’ve been duly warned if I show up and she still hasn’t responded. Don’t think it’s ever actually gone down like that because I usually set the date for a location that’s close and convenient to me, and I simply don’t ever leave the house if she doesn’t respond to that text.

I think you’re implying that negging is just a form of teasing, but I think the two are distinguishable enough that we can say that negging is outright uncool. Negging is a form of teasing designed to lower the other person’s confidence in themself. My Unpopular Dating Opinion: Merely being in decent physical shape will boost almost any woman into the top 5% of her age group. If she knows the most basic things about outfits, hair, and makeup, she would be in the top 2%.
